spot manga reviews

Since I seem to be in one of my shoujo phases*, I decided to use rightstuf's sale to check out some of Viz's latest offerings.  As I try to read at least a bit of new manga before getting it, I have spent much of today reading bits of manga.  And so:

High School Debut:  A former tomboy who loves shoujo manga and spent all of junior high playing ( Read more... )

manga: kaze hikaru, manga: skip-beat, manga, manga: record of the fallen vampire, manga: high school debut, manga/anime: bleach, manga: special a

"so she asks Yoh, a guy who clearly hates being a bishounen"

That got me confused for a few seconds, mainly because someone in a quite popular perm-pop* band of the early `eighties went by that name. (Probably because the likelihood of the average rock journalist being able to spell (or pronounce) "Laurence Landwer-Johan" was approximately zero...)

"Also, Kyoko, stop with this "eye level with Ren's chest" thing. Do you know how hard that is to icon? With most pictures, if I get you in the frame, then he has no head. I get him in the frame and you're a forehead."

Isn't that what cutting the picture in half and sliding the two halves up or down relative to each other is for? (and do you want me to ask a good friend if you can borrow her "Do not f*** with the short chick" icon?)

* like hair metal, but much more tuneful and marginally less ridiculous

I don't really like messing with bases that way a lot, though I know a lot of people do. Especially when the pic has one looking up, or the other looking down.

Well, the icon on your original post works perfectly well just by being zoomed out a bit... but anyway I'd bet actual money on the average icon-maker being a hell of a lot better at making icons look decent than I am... (e.g. the boys wouldn't look nearly so pixellated if someone with actual icon making ability had made my "Madness" icon...)

Not related, but have you watched Hana Yori Dango the anime? Any good?

I haven't really been able to get into the HYD story outside of the jdrama, though I did watch MG and like it well enough. I think dangermousie has seen and liked the anime, though.

!! I LOVE SPECIAL A!! lmao, I think it's so funny, and I love the backstory with Akira... And Love Com is very, very good. Well done romance, imo. Wallflower is the only one out of the three you have that I still follow though. I liked W Juliet but, I dunno, they were already together and there wasn't really alot of 'story' that made the couple interesting, so my mind wandered by Vol. 5, and I loved Skip Beat up until the point when it started getting all angst-like and Ren started to annoy me with his blatant denial. *shrugs* Maybe when the wangst bit stops and more of the humourous stuff comes back, I'll take up Skip Beat again.

I W Juliet, they have all sorts of problems. They just aren't the typical "does s/he like me? should we have sex? does s/he like this other person more than me?" stuff that tends to show up and completely alienate me.

Ren is past blatant denial and on to finding excuses to not be together.

I dunno... The thing about W-Juliet was, I dunno, like, the couple was so strong from the start that I couldn't imagine potential fallouts between them, like them getting misunderstandings or something... I needed there to be more flaws between them, or something. Or maybe it was just my mindset when I read this manga back in the day, since I read so much cross-dressing manga and I got sick of them all after one too many volumes of Hana-Kimi. ^^;;;

...... So much for me going back to Skip Beat. ToT Shame, I liked the beginning too...

I was a goner when she said she was confused when she got to HS, because all the fiction she reads told her you got a boyfriend when you turned 15 and entered HS. I completely understand this misunderstanding.

Ha! Oh, yes.

Disney promised me that when I was 16, I'd learn I was a princess and get a handsome prince! They promised!

And all fiction I read told me that if I wasn't miraculously winning the heart of the cute boy by 16, then I'd be helping to save the world from evil.

Reality was such a letdown...

Well, yes, but it's the last one in the genre that I read (that I didn't put down in annoyance, at least.)

Oh alright. I should have guessed from you owning that icon. This is just my snap-reaction to any such requests, because so few people HAVE read From Far Away, and I'd wish more would, because we might get some more of her manga then.
