i love the internets

So, in addition to the strike that I'm too lazy to link to again on Friday(now tomorrow for many) there are apparently plans for a porn battle, to flood LJ with the things SUP supposedly discriminates against to make sure fandom is noticed(I say "supposedly" because I'm not convinced it's deliberate so much as being overly cautious/paranoid-the ( Read more... )

I don't know if I will be posting tomorrow night (The strike supposedly begins at 6pm Thursday for my time zone) or not. It depends on whether anyone in my RP group posts in our RP. *shrug*

You know, everyone who doesn't post daily at LJ will wind up participating in the strike by default because they simply won't be around to post anyway.

It's also Good Friday, so there would be less posting this weekend anyway, so even if there are enough strikers to make a difference, it could legitimately be passed off being the natural result of a holiday weekend.

Someone on my flist just pointed out the minimum time looked at in their stats is a week, so it's all for nothing anyway.

I'll be trying to post extra, just to annoy all the people trying to bully people into taking part.

My strike sadness comes from the fact that I am on many communities so they can entertain me at work, and they shall be on strike for about half my shift on both Thursday and Friday. I will either get lots of reading done, or be begging for fic recs. Or both. Of course, if I get lots of reading done, it'll just add to my post count.

Porn battle seems like a way better use of our time than striking. And it looks like this time I'll actually be able to write underage girl slash in time for it to be pertinant!

I'm not sure when this one is...it may also be tomorrow, I'm not sure. I...aah...won't be taking part in that, either(and I highly doubt any pairing I'd be interested in reading about-smut or otherwise-will get the treatment) but I can actually understand it a lot better than I can the strike.

*nods*

So what pairings would you like to read porn about? Any that I actually know?

Hmm...that you know?

Possibly Will/Elizabeth, Teal'c/Ishta, Sam/Jack(actually, I have read one of those...I think most of the stargate you've seen is after what I've seen, though, and I avoid spoilers, there.) Oddly, I ship Dresden/Murphy more than I ship most things, but have no desire to read pairing fic about them(probably because Butcher hasn't actually gotten them together yet.)

All my communities will not be doing their jobs of entertaining me, which will require me to either seek out fanfic(and we all know that, when left to hunt for fanfic on my own, I only find the bad stuff) or read more, which will result in my posting more...

All I can think is that the two will just cancel each other out.

even though i'm going wtih the strike (after flip-flopping between striking and posting normally), i posted this very thought this morning too.

since i'm off friday, i plan to do some work in my kitchen, but i know i can't stay away for long. i'll be interesting to watch.

Now that I've slept off my ire at the comments I've read about how strikers shouldn't troll non-strikers for approving of homophobic censoring and discrimination against new users, I'm back to being largely amused by it all.

As long as the porn is kept behind cuts.

What? Oh, god, people. I remember there was a meme going around my flist that implied if you weren't doing it you where homophobic, and I remember posting and saying so. This seems like more of the same.

Yeah. It's never in the body of the post, but I've been reading the comments on the posts in my communities, and posts linked to there, and I've seen the sentiment crop up.

And, frankly, not striking doesn't mean I don't have a problem with it, it means I don't see how it will solve anything. (Though I don't think it's anywhere near as huge a thing as it's being passed off as. If existing basic accounts weren't being grandfathered in, or interests were disappearing from profiles or not available on common interests searches, THEN I'd likely be on the bandwagon, but right now I just think it's paranoia on both sides and bad communication and customer service skills.)
