Dear Joss Whedon...

...I want to believe you that this really is something natural.  And that you aren't trying to make a statement.  Honestly, however, all I can do reading the pages and the interview is think that you think it's simply been too long since you were called progressive or revolutionary or a friend of the feminist movement.  I really should have more of ( Read more... )

Satsu wasn't the pursuer, it was more sort of "Oh, you love me" "Er, yeah." "Well, don't date me, I'm awful at this."

Which is why this makes me want to throw things at Joss. Lemme guess: ratings on the book were falling, so they thought this might help. Hey, Joss? You know what would help? Bringing back the guy who was writing Faith and Giles a few issues back. He handled things way better.

Season Eight has been... ok. The Faith arc was the best one, so far, but now I'm beginning to consider not buying more.

The thing is that, honestly, he didn't handle "Willow turns gay" well either. Like, at all. She went from all about Oz with a little pining for Xander still going on to all about Tara in...what? 5 episodes? I don't think anyone in the world had issues with her falling for Tara because he'd been indicating she was bisexual sice season 2, but then it was like she'd never been attracted to guys. Did we miss the part where sex with Oz and making out with Xander both sucked?

I think people look at the factthat he brings in homosexual themes, without really noticing how he hadles it. This seems to be another case.

But, yeah, I 100% believe this was purely for the sales. Like, you know, virtually every event or revelation in comics vaguely like it.

Oh, completely and totally agreed. And his massive "Willow is totally gay now, yay!" campaign is also highly obnoxious.

And I like Tara.

OTOH, I am not gay, and therefore don't really know what it's like to suddenly discover oneis and that one... doesn't want boys anymore.

Yeah...Tara took a while for me to warm up to just because of how suddenly that storyline played out, but I liked her.

The thing about "Willow is gay" is that in season 7, she was acting like she had never ever ever liked boys and found the thought of sex with boys was squicky, and we were apparently supposed to forget that she used to LIKE sex with boys(well, a boy...)

I read about it in the NY Times and I was all "Yeah, whatever, Joss. You're just so cutting edge. I mean, not." Seriously, I stopped worshipping him a long time ago, and this kind of pandering just reminds me why.

Yes, it's just...sad.

And it emphasizes how, really, so much of his cutting edge and revolutionary is sex as shock value.

See, I've been watching this around today. Even the rabid femslash fans hate this. And not just because it wasn't Faith.
