I rather thought this one might appeal to you (and a couple others)

I don't want to spoil anything, but you're fairly safe with your worries in the next three books (haven't read farther myself, in fact I still have to truly start the fourth one). You do get more magic, though, especially in book three.

I was assuming there'd be more magic eventually.

As far as the worries...I've just had a bad string lately where the "perfect" person for the hero or heroine was...so the wrong person for them.

Finally finished my copy of the book. Might review it eventually.

I think Derian's fairly rapid advancement involves the King figuring out that Firekeeper is a useful person to keep around and that by throwing tidbits at Derian (who Firekeeper obviously has a bit of trust in) he'll convince her to stay useful.

Meanwhile, she's busy watching all the nobs walking around sniffing each other's arses and feeling right at home...

Firekeeper clearly views everyone at court except Jared and Elise as chickens with their eads cut off who think they're wolves.

I've just had some bad luck with Derian's type/approach lately is all.

I thought here were 5?

I'm not sure it's incestuous as we would think of it. For one thing, they obviously aren't related by blood, and for another, everyone in the pack refers to each other as siblings...unless it's the wolf's mate.

Trust me, there will be no romance between Firekeeper and Derian. As for Firekeeper and Blind Seer . . . keep reading. *grin* I totally ship 'em.

I figured I was probably worrying too much as far as Firekeeper/Derian went, I've just been burned several times lately with the wrong person being put forth as the heroine's perfect match.

I ship Firekeeper and blind Seer too. Who cares about species?

There's only a species difference on the outside. Inside, they're the same.

Wolf Captured is AWESOME for this.
