1.  One of my coworkers has us voting all night on one of those little girl beauty pageants.  I feel like I have sold my soul as I utterly despise those things, but I have been promised free food.

2.  Remember my mentioning a coworker named Meghan Marx?   When I got my paystub today, I didn't even look, just grabbed it and went back to my desk.  ( Read more... )

"Enthralling reading-it's like Jane Austen playing Dungeons & Dragons with Eragon's Christopher Paoline."

Dude, that's the most insulting thing I've read all day.

That was my reaction when I saw it...and it's the quote right above the book description (it's ok Lawrence and Tereraire, I know you're far, far superior to those other 2...)

See, this is why you need to choose the 'Super Saver Shipping' option when ordering from Amazon.

I have amazon prime and chose the option for having as many items as possible arrive in one shipment.

Yeah, that works. Hm. Well, I'll chalk it up as just being pretty frickin' weird.

Tangently, I wish my grandmother could get some perspective on my Amazon habits -- I ordered four books off of Amazon marketplace, they arrived seperately, and she got upset at me spending all my money on books (which were a penny plus shipping).

I'm reading the Novik book too ... it isn't grabbing me really hard, but it certainly doesn't deserve that cover blurb. Gotta agree with magicnoire - that's one of the most insulting things I've read recently. Dude, even my 15-yr-old thinks Paolini is lame!!!

I'm loving the Novik book(I just love Temeraire, really) but I'm not ripping through it like I did the first three books. I read each other the first three in as close to one sitting as I could, while I stopped this one to read Yurara after finishing part one.

5. How lost will I be if I watch season 1 of Stargate: Atlantis only having seen s1-4 of SG-1?

Sadly, probably pretty lost. They don't even find the outpost that eventually leads them to Atlantis until the season 7 finale. I'd say that's when you'll be safe to start Atlantis (even though it officially starts closer to . Some majorly critical things happen around SG1 s5-7 that will probably be very confusing otherwise.

When I say lost - actually, now that I think about it - you're probably safe to watch the first Atlantis season just fine. Things might get a little confusing in season 2, though, but not so confusing that it'll spoil you or anything.

Ah. I assumed as much. I shall place it on hold(though I think I know some of the things you're referring to...like Daniel)

In that case, go for it. Because of the distance & lack of interaction with earth, the series don't really begin to cross much until season 4.
