when Hollywood or American TV need a new pairing(or, for that matter, books and comics) friends only/barely know each other are suddenly making googly eyes at each other, or a new character pops out of nowhere and BAM! romance 5 seconds later.

Why did I think of Harry/Ginny immediatly after I read that? :P

I think that the ideal couple is one you can easily picture both a)Fighting back to back, working together to save the world (or conquer it. You can be evil and still in love) and b) Relaxing together on a lazy Sunday. A balanced relationship, respect for each other's ability, and just being able to be at utter ease around each other . . . that's love. That's a relationship that'll last for 50 years or more.

Well...I don't know if you have to be able to see them fighting together to save or destroy the world(though that's always a good bonus) but the balance and respect are crucial, as is being comfortable with each other, which requires time and endurance.

That's more for fandoms that involve the characters fighting to save/destroy the world in the first place; the rest applies to all fandoms.
