Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmell: Relatively standard Gemmell:  mixture of idealistic young heroes, weary older heroes and a reluctant one somewhere in between who ends up being the one history remembers.  Here, the world's nine greatest heroes went into a gateway and never returned...except for one, whose instincts told him that going would ( Read more... )

No body, no real death. I think that is safe to assume of every work of fiction now.

Heh, just wait until you read the book about Valerius and see who his heroine is. Admittedly, that's where I stopped reading the Dark Hunter series because I couldn't take the Mary Sueness anymore.

That said, my reading cred took a sharp plunge the moment I started reading J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which is like the Dark Hunter series -- except on massive crack. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Heh...I've been told...Tabitha started really fun in Kyrian's book, but my tolerance for her ran out when she tried staking Kyrian(and I don't even care for Kyrian that much...)

Yup, Zarek is totally like a villain, goatee and temper and all.

That whole book has the most boring hero and heroine but luckily they get swamped by the cool secondary characters (and yeah, we meet Valerius and he amuses me greatly though unfortunately he loses his coolness sometime between this and his own book).

Re: woobiness and romance novels. So true. Leave some 'oh he is so hot/poor' for the rest of us, author!

Ash amuses me, mainly because I like characters who snark AND self-torture. I am worried when she writes an Ash book, she is going to do the usual and make him sappy.

Re: Zarek. I dunno. There are enoug bits in is book to show him as non-villain. Hmmm.
