BTW, for the ones who've mentioned being impressed with my speed: I watched all of Remote in one day, and all but the first episode of Kekkon Dekinai Otoko in one day. With the rare exception, I tend to just marathon things...
Well, I think others even more prone to such things than I am (
dangermousie, *whistles* and others) have gone over the OTP more than enough(plus, I think almost everyone has seen it) so I'll most leave that alone, but:
SNOWGLOBES!!! Seriously, the man is a snowglobe fiend...actually, I think he was just obsessed with snow in general...
Also, Yu-rin should have just given in when Gong-chan found her...man spent 2 years looking for her...no amount of shaking him off was ever going to work.
Moving on...
Grandfather: On the one hand, I can see why some hate him so much, but on the other...well, even if it was for a good reason(to grant his dying wish and then out of fear the truth would kill him when he started to get better) he WAS lied to and betrayed by the two people he loved the most, and for months his life was centered around that lie. I can understanmd why he'd never want to see or hear from Yu-rin after that, so I can't really hold his actions right after finding out against him. But keeping Hana a secret for two years so Gong-chan would continue to feel guilty? That was cruel. I mean, even putting Gong-chan's feelings aside, it's also treating Hana like she was a dirty secret and not letting her meet her family, so he was punishing her in addition to Gong-chan. I still can't hate him, though as, even if he was wrong and took it too far, he was driven by his pain. Plus, I just can't disassociate him from the grandfather in 1% of Anything(same actor) and you just can't hate someone who makes you think of that guy...
Incidentally, were Hana and her husband the leads from Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang?
Sae-hyun: Ok, seriously, does this woman live in anything resembling reality? You know, I can't help but compare her to Qingkong in Magicians of Love, which really makes Qingkong look like the best "other girl" ever. The stories are relatively the same: she was dating the guy but went to another country to train for her career several years ago, then came back and wanted to pick up where they left off, and he's not sure until she gets hurt(and both times, it's her hand) at which point he feels obligated to be with her and try again. Except...it's so much different. Qingkong left Ya Si at(iirc) an ok time in his life, and they discussed her leaving and when she'd be back, and all their friends knew what was going on. She was gone longer than they agreed to though, and when she came back, he had started to fall for Xiao Bei, but everyone assumed he'd automatically get back together with her. Qingkong did some bad things throughout the series, but her self-centeredness was motivated more by immaturity than any inherent selfishness or cruelty...she realized the things she did were wrong, but she honestly believed that they were what was best for Ya Si and that it wouldn't hurt Xiao Bei, who she wanted to be friends with, and, in the end, she DOES realize she was wrong about that and cut him loose, and "forfeit" the competition to try to make amends for what she'd done. She grows up and becomes a better person, and while she's immature and causes trouble(a lot of it) she's never malicious.
In contrast, Sae-hyun literally abandoned Gong-chan at the worst time in his life without a word(I mean really, until he found out from other people or the news or whatever, for all he knew she'd been murdered and her body dumped somewhere) and hurt him so bad that everyone who knew him hated her guts for it, yet she assumed "I'm sorry, let's try again" was enough and didn't get why anyone was mad at her. And her behavior over Yu-rin...sheesh. Gong-chan went out of his way to ALWAYS treat Yu-rin like she was exactly what they claimed she was...a long lost cousin trying to adjust to her new life(the fact that he treated her that way is a large part of why she fell for him, even) and Sae-hyun had NO reason to feel remotely threatened by her, yet she acted like GC was cheating on her or something if he so much as mentioned YR, and anytime he wanted to do something without her, she invited herself along and made anyone else feel like the intruder. The woman was literally incapable of thinking of anyone but herself and managed to turn everything into a personal affront to or attack on her, no matter what it was. Now, Qingkong was no angel(far from it) but compared to Sae-Hyun she was.
Moving on to more pleasant things...
You know, even if I'd hated the leaeds(which is far, far from the case) the supporting cast would have made this worthwhile. While I didn't love Jung-woo as much as most seem too, he's a VERY inoffensive 3rd party, largely because he always put his friendship with Gong-chan before any rivalry and never tried to play on an uneven field or make him look bad. I loved YR's two friends, and his crush on Jin-kyung(who I really liked and want to see more with the actress) was adorable. And GC's aunt and her relationship with her OTP and her rivalry with JW's mother were all great. I couldn't even dislike YR's dad, useless as he was.
And I LOVED all the fantasy sequences...usually my tolerance for fantasy sequences expires after the first 2 or three, but these were all great because they were such wonderful parodies or...well...everything...I especially loved YR's when she thought there was a terrorist in the hotel, and her friends' when they were wondering how things could work out and envisioned standard angstfest melodrama. So much love.
I'll likely be getting both Fantasy Couple and Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang in my nect dorama order, as they're both by the same people, and both have been recced.
