  • Spiderman 3-Can't work up any interest.  Liked the first movie a lot, missed the second one in theaters and have never seen it as whole.  Have seen hefty chunks at various times, though, and pretty much been bored.  Also?  They've already done Gwen with MJ.  Like the Ultimate titles, there's really no point in bringing Gwen in now because her story ( Read more... )

Heh, if you're really bored, see if you can answer the question I posted with the SDK art on my LJ. You read so many manga, you might actually have an answer for me .... .

The only reason to see the new Pirates is for the makeup, costumes, and special effects. But Stardust should be good.

Couldn't agree with you more on the POTC's ships... I was like "WTF??" when I saw all teh Eliza/Jack vibes in POTC2... :/ I love Jack, but Elizabeth should be with Will and that's final :P

Have you read Kimi wa Pet (or Tramps Like Us, in english)? There isn't any fantasy, but it's a funny story with believable characters, imo.

Yeah, the Jack/Elizabeth stuff was serious "WTF?" for me, too. I mean, it was "HUH??? Where'd that come from?" But, like I said, I think it's just the life she's attracted to, not the man. And really, Jack/Elizabeth doesn't have any more chemistry than Will/Elizabeth...W/E is steady while J/E is combustible, and that's why it stands out more.

I've looks at Tramps in the bookstore but, while I liked the live action, I couldn't get interested. Should try again sometime.

By the way I've seen it in the trailers, my guess is that W/E will be back (or at least, Elizabeth will be back to her senses) in the third movie. I'll keep hoping so.

I watched the drama before reading the manga... I took a look at the manga online and wasn't hooked, but I gave it a chance again when I bought the first volume and I loved it. What made me love it was how real Sumire's problems were, how believable the character and their relationship could be... and that's something I had to give more time to find out, but after I did, I couldn't have enough :)

One can only hope Elizabeth comes back to her senses.

That's what made the drama work, too. About to go to waldenbooks before work. if they don't have anything new, i may look.

I'll go see Spiderman 3 but am not in a hurry. Spiderman's one of the better comic-based film series, but considering the Fantastic Fours and Daredevils that are out there, I guess it's not really saying much.

POTC 3 - yep, totally agreed. I don't like Keira OR Orlando but as characters, their romance is clearly preferrable. Jack/Elizabeth makes my skin crawl for some reason. I also hate seeing Will getting duped, as he's such a simple, sincere hero character. Okay, maybe I just don't like Elizabeth, period. :D

I actually prefer FF because it didn't try for any high ideas or messages, it just tried to be fun.

I think the only duping of Will that Elizabeth has done been to keep him from doing things that are foolishly heroic and could get him killed. Jack/Elizabeth just came out of nowhere and feels wrong in the extreme...they HEAVILY went with the "true love" bit for Will/Elizabeth in the first movie, then they kept it for the second, but then they threw in Jack/Elizabeth and it made no sense. And what was with Jack just up and selling out Will like that? It didn't fit with their relationship in the first movie at all.

Yeah, it was weird that they wrote it in. It was such a fandom ship in my eyes, only slightly more believable than Jack/Will or Jack/Norrington. Hmm, so POTC fans might hate me for saying that but still. It was WTF-y.

mmm...that's it exactly, i think. It's a fandom thing that didn't fit canon at all, then got written into canon to make fans happy and just...it doesn't work. At all.
