Random comics I miss

Just random comic books I miss.

Generation X: Often weird and convoluted, well written only half the time, yet probably one of my top 5 comicbooks ever.  I don't think I've ever read a comic book that featured a stronger or more crucial bond between the characters.  Often it seemed the only thing in the world that they had was each other, and in ( Read more... )

comics: jubilee, comics: generation x, comics: thunderbolts, comics: new warriors, comics: more than mortal, comics: birds of prey, comics: crossgen, comics: ruse, comics

*thumbs up*

Although the Thunderbolts 3.0 have kinda grown on me. It's different, with some similar elements, and some of Ellis' better mainstream work in recent years. That said, THIS should have been "New Thunderbolts". ;)

Aye...Ellis is far too into decompressed storytelling for my tastes, and I pretty much despise most of the characters, but the book itself is interesting. it's just not remotely the book I fell in love with. Same w/ BoP...I love it and what it is, but miss what it WAS. Though, in that case, there's really no way to recreate the early Dixon days, while Tbolts could have still been what it was.

I second missing Gen X. There was really nothing like it, before or since. Runaways is probably closest to it in spirit, but it's developed along its own lines, which is a good thing. I don't think there will be another Generation X, and that's fine with me. I still have all the back issues.

New Warriors I also miss, even though it was such a 90's version of Teen Titans sometimes. It took knock-offs and C-list heroes and made you care about each and every single one of them. Nova, Justice, and Speedball started out as pretty simple "rebel," "all-american," and "comedy" type heroes, but they really developed into some of the most interesting characters around. No matter what that idiot Larson says, I'm thrilled that Nova's finally being respected as a big-time hero, and I only wish that Justice had gotten the return trip to the Avengers he deserved (the second tour always means more than the first) or that Speedball hadn't been character assassinated.

GenX, I think, was a once in a lifetime thing. Other attempts just miss the fact that A) most of them would NEVER be heroes and being heroes was never the point, and B) that they were all completely, irredeemably screwed up and damaged. And it was never about friendship, but about need...the word "friend" is inadequate for what happened between them. Runaways tried, but really, aside from "we must stick together because our parents were evil and we dont want to be evil" they have...karolina was insecure about being gay and chase has anger/violence issues in his past. Nothing in comparison to a ganster who faked his death, a mute girl who would kill you just by sitting there if you hugged her, a guy who was so powerful he blew up his own chest and only HAS a body because he thinks he should have one. Heck, they don't even have anything that comapres to a girl who's chief motivation for being a good hero is to prove she'll be better at it than her brother ( ... )

I fairly much agree with you on the books I've actually read (i.e. "Generation X", "New Warriors", "Ruse" and "Thunderbolts").
