Just finished the Cowboy Bebop anime, including the movie.  While I liked it well enough, I think it's like the Ghost in the Shell movie(but not series) in that I would have liked and appreciated it a lot more if it had been one of my earliest animes.  It was too much a case of style over substance for me, which I sometimes like, but when that ( Read more... )

I love Vicious. Perhaps it's because he's not truly evil, just BAD. He's not trying to bring down the government or wipe out an alien race or anything. He just has some very definite goals and he will MESS. YOU. UP. if you get in his way. Normally he doesn't just kill wantonly. Only if you make the mistake of trying to stop him does he bother.

And then there's the added strangeness of the fact that even though he always seems to have been that way, Spike and Gren legitimately liked him at one time. Just a charismatic villain.

Yeah, Vicious just IS and that's it. I suspect they used to like them because messng with them was a MESS. YOU. UP. offence.

I get the feeling that at one time Vicious was not quite the isolated monster that we see him. I don't think he was ever GOOD by any means of the word. It's always the impression that he never had any morals and was a gangster, but there must have been either some kind of loyalty or trust or something about him that drew Spike, Julia and Gren to him. We unfortunately only see him after he's cut himself off from everyone and turned truly nasty.
