Into the Badlands (pilot)

Into the Badlands is a post-apocalyptic dystopian martial arts series that is a very loose adaptation of Journey to the West. Which probably tells you whether or not it's or you already.

I was all "I see what you did there" at Aramis Knight's character being called MK. Also, Aramis Knight is a great name.

Pretty sure Sunny is not a reference to Sanzo being Goku's sun in Saiyuki, but who knows?

I assumed Sunny came from Sun Wukong, which is the monkey king's name in the original. I wouldn't be surprised at Saiyuki references, though.

edit: if there is a Saiyuki reference in the pilit, its most like in having the monkey king be a young boy.

Sunny is not Sun Wukong, though. MK is. Unless they share names. *cue wedding music*

Sunny is Xuanzang if he's anyone, but the name itself could be a reference. Though it did occur to me that Veil could be the monk figure (seemingly virtuous and decent person, frees Sunny from his figurative box while Sunny frees MK from his literal box, is the one who wants to go on the journey to the legendary land) with both Sunny and MK representing Sun Wukong.
