Out of curiosity, I checked out the first episode of The Last Kingdom, mostly to see if I liked it more than The Bastard Executioner. The answer is, yes and no? In that, unlike TBE, I can actually see myself liking some of the characters if I watched more. but that's about it. The show is set during the 9th century and focuses on the Danish ( Read more... )

Well, I wasn't going to watch it, and now, I'm definitely not going to watch it. So done with rape storylines...

Yup. And its not even that there can never be a good reason to include rape. Its that 99% of the time its used as a shortcut so even that 1% is going to be questioned by default.

historical/pseudohistorical tv is very much not my area of interest, but every word you say on the post-GoT (and GoT) tv is a balm to my ears. preach!

Historical and pseudohistorical TV is pretty much my favorite TV, and I just want to be able to watch a certain type of it without subtitles and without feeling dirty.
