anime catchup

I pretty much accidentally gave up on all the media I was supposed to be consuming for WisCon because I got distracted by 2 very long anime series (Fairy Tail, and A Certain Magical Index, both of which I should comment on once I catch up), but I did manage to catch up with airing anime. A victory is a victory?

Akuma no Riddle eps 3-7: This show ( Read more... )

anime: akuma no riddle, anime, anime: atelier escha and logy, anime: the world is still beautiful, anime: black bullet

i wish so hard they'd dial down the whole romantic storyline or age livius up visually, because, ugh, no he doesn't look 15, and it's all just - weird.

especially since what i'm getting from the anime is not that they're getting into each other romantically, but just sort of... fall in love agape-wise, i guess? which is pretty much all i want out of this story, for them to be deeply loving friends before becoming lovers, i'm just not quite sure if it's intentional or not.

(i'm also borderline annoyed by the whole nike-learns-to-be-more-feminine jokes and sidestories, but i appreciate that they set it up and dispel it over the course of one episode, and that they also half-frame it as an investment into her governing abilities, not just pleasing livius).

my theory about rain kingdrom is that they could easily be the scariest force around, but since their theology is built on ethic and good sense, they just don't bother.

mushishi is really into body horror recently, isn't i t? ginko is a good character for that (his :\ face is ( ... )

I think Livius is somewhat falling in love with Nike romantically, or at least is young enough that the thinks that can be the only explanation for "strong feelings + pretty girl," while Nike seems to mostly see him as a kid.

I think the "Nike needs to be more feminine" has, so far, been pretty well framed as needing to ACT it in public for political reasons, but not as there actually being anything wrong with her just being the way she is.

This season of Mushishi seems to have really latched onto the "parasite" element of the worldbuilding, hasn't it?

Atelier is lovely and snuggly and cute. Also annoyingly gender role conformist, at times, which I didn't really get into in the comments, but not to the point where I want to throw things.

I'm still loving Akuma no Riddle. The Romeo and Juliet episode was beautiful in such a sad way. But the show in itself is not all about tragedy, there's also a lot of humour, so it has a good balance.

Yeah, it's a good show and probably the one I'm the most into right now, I just wish it'd get where it's going a bit more quickly.
