 1.  Apparently, the issues with LJ the last couple days is that LJ was doing maintenance on accounts in "clusters," and anytime a post made to a community in one of the clusters appeared on your friendslist, it gave you an error.  Not that they bothered to actually tell anyone what communities would be affected so that either moderators could halt ( Read more... )

DW has fewer shiny layouts? And Tumblr has lots of (sometimes shiny, sometimes not) pictures and interesting posts, not necessarily from people we know, and drama. Though the LJ/DW comment system is the best when you want to have long convos without bothering people who follow/subscribe to you.

The comment system (and userpics) are the big thing for me, but also the conservation. Tumblr is designed to share pictures and gifs, but that's really it. Meta can get tossed around, but it can't be discussed or have discussions branch off of it without extreme awkwardness and cluttering up people's feeds, and for me, that just creates frustration.

I had a shift to DW all planned out a couple of years ago. Then my computer went through a protracted and eventually catastrophic series of failures, and once that was almost sorted out I ended up with my leg in a cast for six weeks and wearing Speshul Sox for another six months, and I've been spending most of my evenings logged in to work remotely catching up on various backlogs, so things simply haven't happened. I might look at DW again some time in spring (I'm fairly sure my account over there is still active) but I won't be entirely giving up on LJ (enough friends that I don't see anywhere else, plus I may as well not waste the permanent membership I got years ago).

I've never actually managed to figure out how Tumbler works (I still think of a tumbler as something you drink out of...)

"But what I really want is a good epic fantasy show that has lots of women and doesn't just go the medieval(Europe)-lite route and isn't about a dude's destiny."

This is near the top of my entertainment wish list... but it does seem very unlikely.

After getting more comfortable with WordPress and getting into the groove of Tumblr (by following blogs I actually want to follow and tracking pertinent tags), I've realized that almost all of my fandom needs are completely satisfied without LJ. I have very little reason to visit LJ nowadays, except to maybe read up on Omona but I believe I can just add the community to my WP reader (along with a few people I still read on LJ) and be done with LJ forever. Of course, WordPress is less personal and you have to be a very dedicated to make friends/communicate with people on Tumblr but I think the lack of content and innovation on LJ really is killing it. If I want to get into a fandom quickly and painlessly, Tumblr is the place to go and I love how many fandoms it keeps afloat (ancient anime, obscure shows/movies etc). In terms of establishing connections and actually talking to people, WP (maybe blospot) is not a bad place to be honest - you can follow people and it will track comments you leave on other WP blogs.
