"I'd watch shows with female leads if there were any good ones with interesting women"

Know what's cool?  Amazon having decent prices on a lot of new/still airing TV shows with female (often in multiples) leads that not enough people are watching.  (What's not cool is having to remind myself that no, I actually DON'T have a lot of money to spare, most of what looks like fun money in my account is for WisCon.)

BUT BUT, none of those shows has the kind of female character I think is interesting enough white dudes being straight that I can slash , or I don't like those genres, or, or or, ANYTHING that will make them interesting to my higher standards for female characters standards that are insane and impossible to meet, and so I will go back to watching my any two white dudes boring bff pastiche!

to be fair, the lack of new space opera with women is a TRAVESTY, GET ON THAT, TV EXECS

(also, Wish Me Luck the entire series is currently on sale; FEMALE SPIES DURING WWII. I feel everyone should be all over this, despite the show's occasional issues.)

(two hours later, I actually remember to hit post comment, whoops)

Of those, Call the Midwife and The Hour are still on my 'to-watch' list. I actually saw the pilots of both...at some point but never watched the rest. I...don't remember why?

The first two seasons of The Good Wife are excellent. Season 3 is less so and season 4 was kind of a hot mess. But the first two seasons = really, really good.

*wishes Bomb Girls was out so it could be added to the list*

And I know you've seen these but I thought they deserved a mention:

Covert Affairs - obviously there are plenty dudes, but the lead is a female character and she's got an awesome female boss - LADY SPIES, basically :)

Missing - Ashley Judd. Kicking Ass. Former CIA agent gone rouge after her son goes missing, ala the title. Not many ladies but Ashley Judd is worth it. Ends on kind of a terrible cliff-hanger as it was canceled after only one short season.

I knew I was forgetting shows. (Missing, despite it's flaws, actually did some interesting things on the gaze and metanarrative level.)

The Good Wife is amazing, especially the first two seasons. They have some promos that say "Don't let the name fool you" so I guess they realised the title wasn't such a good idea after all.

Well, I always assumed that the title was meant to be a criticism (or at least, commentary) on the idea, but then, that's what I expect from those things. I was just leery initially of the premise, and then kept getting sidetracked by other things when I meant to check it out.
