TeeVee (part one)

Arrow 1.10-1.13: This show's devotion to getting at least one actor from every geeky show ever to guest star at least once continues to amaze me. I'm currently rooting for them to dunk either Kathleen Munroe or Gloria Votsis's hair in some red hair dye so I can finally have some Barbara Gordon on my screen. (Preferably as Laurel's BFF, and not ( Read more... )

Re Elementary

I get a strong sense that everybody in fandom roots for their relationship as a partnership but almost nobody wants to see it turn romantic on the actual show, and maybe a quarter of people I've encountered actually ship it in the romantic sense. Fanfiction is a fun release for those few who actually ship it (as opposed to friendshipping or whatever you call the platonic counterpart) but a huge amount of the fic is gen or asexual kink or something that doesn't really go into the romantic possibilities.

Everybody's invested their relationship, whether they want to see it as sexual/romantic or not, so I feel like everybody's on the same boat.

Well, I don't think it's possible to like the show without having an investment in their relationship, it's just that I see a lot of people talking about being in the minority in not wanting them together, but I don't actually see anyone wanting them together. (Though I think a lot is people not watching the show assuming that those who are are watching to see them get together.)

Commenting on Elementary for the moment according to the showrunners there won't be any romance between Sherlock and Joan.

Yup, seen and been very happy with those statements. (And seen them endlessly countered with "well, they say that NOW..." by the brigade offended by the idea of Watson as a WOC.)

Elementary is the only Sherlock Holmes adaptation where I see no romantic subtext between Holmes and Watson. Oh, the irony! (Though I ship Moriarty/Sherlock more than Sherlock/John in the BBC show.)

I've never been a big Holmes fan (and never seen the BBC series...everything I hear about it,m both pro and con, tells me I wouldn't care for it) but I'm not sure how ironic it is since the actors and creators say there won't be any romance.

I say "ironic" in reference to all the talk there was in fandom about genderbending only one of the characters before the show started.

Heh. I was one of the ones wishing they'd also gender and/or racebent Holmes, but not for reasons that had anything to do with shipping.

I've seen people shipping it... in that I've seen fanmixes made for the ship? It haven't really seen people outwardly shipping it that much.
It's hard to tell because some of them could just be the brotp (although usually it's notated differently) but I did have a look in some of them and some are actual shippiness.

I would cry and throw the show out of a window if they went there. I am sobbing beautiful tears of happiness because of how wonderful their friendship is and it's everything I ever wanted but never got from a show. I really don't want the show to go there. I'm fairly certain they won't though

Yeah, most of what I've seen has spercified that it was brotp/partners, not romance.

I very much appreciated Diggle's shirtless workout scene. (More than I do Oliver's, really. Boy is pretty, but not my type.)
Appreciated it, too *gg* And by now I find all those shirtless scenes with Oliver extremely revolting. Which is a suprising reaction, I mean, I don't think he is pretty, he is imo too generic for that, but it's rare for me to develop such an extreme reaction.
The fact that Diggle is exactly my type doesn't make this any easier. *gg*

Oliver is...generically whitebread goodlooking. Like most CW male leads. And like most, not my thing. But Diggle? Yuppers.
