Arrow1.1: Better than I expected, but still rather eyerolly. Particularly Oliver's "I am Batman with a touch of Edmond Dantes" voiceovers, and I mostly cringe at Oliver's somewhat annoying BFF and how they appear to be treating his bodyguard. I started it not expecting to like Oliver and don't particularly, but don't dislike him the way some things ( Read more... )

especially since her sister died in the middle of the cheating. Err, because of a shipwreck, not his killing her

LOL, loved that you had to clarify that. Well, if it was a show like Vampire Diaries, you'd probably have to :)

The fact that Arrow and BATB are by the same network as The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural makes it necessary, I fear. (Also the only reason I really have any worries in the romance department for either show.)

I am currently watching BATB and really enjoying it. Doesn't hurt that I like KK. (So far, I prefer BATB).

I liked them roughly equally, though BATB was ahead until a scene near the end. (You'll probably know it when you see it, but I don't think it'll affect you as much.) Arrow surprised me because I weasn't really planning on watching until I realized Katie Cassidy was playing Laurel because I've enjoyed her in the little bit of other stuff that I've seen her in and adore the comic book character Laurel is based on.

I've always liked Kristen Kreuk, even if I often didn't care for Lana in Smallville after the first season. (And I never really agreed with the "bad actress" claims because she was generally not given very good material but when they did give her good material in Smallville, I thought she was great.)

*nodding re: Beastly*. Also the werewolfing out: the only time we see him do it and the camera is focused on him (and not his shadow or his blur), I said "Hulk smash!" because it seemed very Hulk Getting Angry, grr.

I still just really, really don't get why Olivia fell for Fitz in the first place. The story hasn't shown him being particularly intelligent or giving or even unusually charismatic, so why are all these people falling all over themselves to prop him up and insisting that he is Destined to Be A Great Man? I don't buy it. :/

I think my favorite (canon) romance on the show is Cyrus and his husband. Because Cyrus is an asshole, but he and his husband's epic squabbling married love is unexpectedly adorable and humanizing.

The thing about Cyrus and his husband is that if it was his wife instead, I don't think ANY (or at least, very little) of the dialogue would change, and that's rare.

This is why I find it REALLY hard to buy that Olivia is in love with Fitz, or ever was. It seems to me that it was more hormones (he is rather attractive in a bland way) and the lure of the forbidden combined with sympathy because he may have ideals and admirable goals (not that we've seen much of them) but he just...isn't suited, but wants to be. But he's too busy abusing his power so he can harass his ex to actually do anything worthwhile.
