The problem I'm having right now is that, naturally, I want her to be safe and safely far away from Gi Cheul and his plots, yet this whole thing is so very ENTERTAINING Ditto and Eun Soo manages so perfectly.
I have come to the conclusion that Gongmin's loudmouthed advisor is a spy. I'm still not sure about him. His advise is always terrible, but it doesn't feel wrong but more like he really cares about what the king does and is terrified, because he is not in charge anymore. To be honest, I'd be very disappointed if he was a spy.
I loved the actor of Gi Cheul in "Kim Soo Ro" (the drama sadly let me down in a big way *sigh*) but Gi Cheul is so. so, so much greater then his other character, especially because of the interaction with Eun Soo. And yes, I'd too love if he fell for her and it'd make totally sense.
So far this drama has developed rather nicely and I really, really hope they keep it up.
If it was just the bad advice, that'd be my interpretation too? But every time Gong Min needs to make a decision or do something to show his authority or be allowed to handle a situation on his own, he starts shrieking in outrage and it only points out the disrespect and his lack of authority and both undermines him and blocks his chances of recovering from the situation, and I find it hard to believe that he doesn't know that. Even in the jail scene, even though Gongmin managed to get what he wanted to do done, his reaction made Gongmin look like a foolish boy to everyone else. The only time Gongmin has really managed to circumvent him and his sabotage (deliberate or otherwise) is with the wardrobes at the end of ep 8. I agree that his being a spy would be a narrative disappointment, but it's hard to view anything he does as actual support.
What disappointed you about Kim Soo Ro? I have that one on my list of dramas to watch.
I don't know if I remember correctly, but I think he smiled when Gongmin changed into Goryo wardrobe. I have to check this, but I think I was a bit puzzled because of his reaction, because I thought he'd look gloomy or something like that.
@ Kim Soo Ro The portrayal of his mother. She was great in the beginning, but the writers decided that it'd be awesome to show her as some brainless idiot. I never watched the final episode, because I was so frustrated. Otherwise it's great and I don't regret the time I invested. It has a lot of very awesome and memorable scenes.
Yeah, his reaction to that is the first time he had a scene and I DIDN'T think he was actually working against Gongmin (deliberately or otherwise). He might shape up, but so far he's just been so terribly annoying.
Re: KSR: A pity. Things I'd heard about his mother when it first came out were why I DLed it. Sounds like Gye Baek, where I really liked the first half (which could almost be a complete drama in an of itself) but it started falling apart after that plotline ended and became so misogynistic in its handling of the female lead that I gave up in disgust.
I don't like Gi Chul but I find his interactions with everyone entertaining. (I love that actor in general, in everything I've seen him - he was super cool in Swallow the Sun as a hardened mercenary who was in love with a suicidal stripper and they ended up getting a happily ever after, shockingly).
Choi Young is straight out of every delicious shoujo of my childhood.
Eun Soo is so very amazing, my favorite character.
That pairing was the only thing that ever really interested me in what I heard of Swallow the Sun while it was airing.
No conventional interpretation of "like" could be applied to Gi Cheul, but like Eun Soo, the way he's played makes his interactions with all the other characters (except the poor kid, in his case) so very entertaining.

Yeah, GC is a horrible horrible human being but so entertaining to watch, which you can't say for most villains. His scenes with ES are pure gold.
