Also, Korra bears too much resemblance to a bulldozer for anything that could ever be termed a "slow burn" to apply to her.

She really does. I think there are three things going on:

* Korra = bulldozer
* They seem to be acting in accordance with their personalities, see point one
* I kind of wonder if the producers got sick of the shipwank and just want to be like 'LOOK, THIS IS THE SHIP, DEAL WITH IT.' Not that that will really help, but hey, you can't blame them for trying.

I love the filmreel opening, it just makes me so happy. As do Tenzin's daughters. (And I cannot wait to see the first appearance of grown-up Aang, and see how the adult contrasted with the legend.)

Republic City is delightful, but I do hope in the second (third? six seasons and a movie? IDK) season they branch out a little, just because I want to see where and how else the world has changed.

I think there are only supposed to be 2 seasons? Hopefully its superpopular and there's more.

Weren't the producers pretty "WTF?" over most of the shipping in the first series?

I think so too, but the series premiere got killer ratings, and they've said the seasons are going to be more self-contained, so I think it's possible they could add a season or two if things go well.

EDIT: And even I, steeled from years reading fandom_wank, got a little boggled by the shippers, lol.

Lightning-bending is common now?

That wasnt lightening bending, what the mob boss did was but what the masked warriors did was using electrical currents/chargers or something. I dont think Amon would hire benders to work for him. so they werent bending anything at mako and bolin. plus actual lightening like what azula and ozai could do would kill you in one shot if you got a direct hit, and the boys were hit multiple times. so its not nearly as strong.
I agree with all your other thoughts tho. :)

I actually wasn't referring to Amon's guys (I assumed it was something in the suits or weapons) but the mob boss and then Mako and the other firebenders at the plant, or whereever it was he was working. (Though that would have been more low-level electricity, I suppose.)

Our speculation about the lightning-bending stuff in our apartment is that metal-bending now is basically like lightning-bending was back in A:tLA -- once a technique gets discovered, it starts out as something very elite that not many people learn to do, and then as people start to realize it's possible and the training for it becomes more available and more a part of standard practice, it becomes more and more common. So, like, another 70 years from now, maybe everyone will be metalbending too!

I think I just want more information on how the technology has evolved (It seems to have evolved at a much faster rate than it actually did in our history) and what role bending played in it, as I suspect that also altered how benders were trained and developed specialities. The technological advancements also seem to revolve around bending, which is probably a lot of where the Equalizers are coming from, if the society isn't just "benders are powerful and more special than you" but more "benders make the world work and you're just here."

"-Aang and Toph would sneak off to probend too. "

I can imagine that.

"-I like the nod to Korra not ever having had to take care of/provide for herself before."

I like that too. Self-confidence can be easier when you're sheltered, when you feel safe because everyone supports you and you have abilities of your own. I want to see what she makes of herself when certainties become less certain.

I actually think it would have been interesting to see her encounter chiblocking without Mako (or anyone else) there to immediately tell her it'd wear off soon, but I suspect Amon is eventually going to remove her powers (how do they know it's permanent, anyway?) and she'll have to find a way to get them back.

Yeah. My favorite episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the one in which she loses her powers without knowing why (at first), without knowing when she'll get them back, and finds a way to fight on anyway.

ugh I already love Korra way better than ATLA I don't care if that's sacrilege or whatever.

Wish I had something sensible to say but I'm just all *____*

Well, I don't know which i'll prefer in the long run (I hope we don't have to wait until season 2 for more girls Korra's age to show up in more than 1 episode without dying) but I'm definitely more involved than I was in the first few eps of ATLA, though of course the previous ATLA investment is a factor.

I have thoughts on Revenge, now I've watched it. While it was all about the Graysons, it was still about Emily putting together the pieces for the plans and plots she has for the future (I wonder if she knew that was where Treadwell would fire on his blog or not?)

Also, I am pleased at her beating the crap out of the dude, because it was pretty awesome. And also interesting to see that she still has that viciousness from her earlier years. It might be buried under the prettification of beign Emily Thorne, but it still lurks.

As for Victoria's new boytoy, I am fairly certain he's Daniel's biodaddy, if only because when i saw him, I immediately saw the resemblance to Daniel (Conrad looks a bit like him, too, but there was something more in Purefoy's face that matched Daniel. Or maybe it was the way he stands? I don't know)

But, yes, Conrad: not the biological father of either of his kids. *amused*

I think Purefoy has more of the same general look as Daniel's actor. Really, I just support almost anything that screws Conrad over.

And yeah, I agree about Emily and piecing things together. I suppose it's just that she's reactive more than proactive right now, and it feels likethere's been a fair bit of that lately? And I do think some of that is her planting seeds and just seeing what happens, but I also think that some of it is to keep her from winning too soon.
