movie: Mirror, Mirror, or "The One Where Snow White Makes A Robin Hood Speech"

So, since the last time I went to the theaters, matinee prices inflated to what evening prices were then.

Trailers were less than inspiring:  Dark Shadows looked amusing and I liked the Brave clip (except for the bit with how her dad is apparently so fun and approachable but her mother is strict and humorless AND DOESN'T UNDERSTAND) but the rest ( Read more... )

movie: brave, snow white, movie: mirror mirror

I was kind of annoyed at the spanking. If it were me, I'd just kick him where it hurts. I loved how she punched him later.

I was expecting more from this movie so left a bit disappointed. I liked some of Julia's line and that's it.
Right when the movie started it was supposed to be cold (right? it was snowing) and there the prince was walking with his bare feet on snow and semi naked and not even shivering.

Yeah, the whole thing took place during winter. (Though I half wondered if t was an "it's always winter now" thing.) No one really dressed for the cold, though.

I really enjoyed the movie! The dwarves were really great and Snow White was beautiful but also reminded me of those pretty middle eastern girls in my family's friends families. My mom (who i saw the movie with) was like "her eyebrows are scary" tho. -_- mom i like her eyebrows they have character! she's always getting on me to do my eyebrows this was just like vindication except i dont like anywhere near as flawless as the actress does.
Your problems with the movie were the same things i had problems with, esp the spanking was gross and infantilizing but i was glad when she got him in the end. and also the fact that she wasnt queen in the end which is what i was banking on. BOO. i loved the bollywood dance number at the end tho. my mom got really into it. Julia was so great as the queen you can tell she just loved every second of it. I think my favorite thing in the film on a shallow level was eiko ishioka's gorgeous costumes. may she RIP.

The costumes were stunning, even though i think some should have been reigned in a bit ( ... )

I wasnt super fond of the prince either. But I didnt hate him. I really appreciated that the narrative had him apologize to the dwarfs for the gross things he said about them because alot of other movies wouldnt bother. On a shallow note I was annoyed that he looked so much older than her. I havent checked the actors ages but Lily Colins is so baby faced already and i heard other people complain too after the movie. Maybe i'm just annoyed cause i prefer guys with cuter faces ( ... )

Funny how no one is trying to pit Arnie Hammer and Sam Claflin against each other, given that Claflin auditioned for the prince in Mirror, Mirror before getting cast in SWATH.

The interviews remind me of when Kate Hudson was getting big and they tried to create a rivalry between her and Goldie Hawn and you could see the two going "Are you really trying to get me to badmouth my mother/daughter and her career?"

I heard someone say that if you liked The 10th Kingdom, then you'll like Mirror, Mirror. Would you agree? The trailer just looks a little too cracky - Hubby is saying no way he'll see it.

I forgot this movie was Lily Collins - now I don't want to see it with him anyway. Was hard enough sitting through the stupidity that was Abduction with him & my friend mocking her eyebrows the entire time...

Well, I like both, but I really wouldn't have thought to compare the 2 beyond their being Snow White stories. The closest thing I can think of to compare it to is Happily N'Ever After and it's sequel, which are super-fractured retellings of Cinderella and Snow White respectively.

It's cracky, but it's like the trailer ONLY used the extra cracky bits (some of which is actually a Bollywood-style musical number that's part of the credits but not in the movie itself) and nothing else.
