These are the first two books of Riordan's "Kane Chronicles" which is Riordan's take on modern kids and Egyptian mythology. Riordan relies heavily on what worked for the "Percy Jackson" books here, but not so much that he's copying himself.

Okay I'm more tempted to try these books after your little conversation. I enjoyed the Percy Jackson books but haven't gotten past the third book yet so I wasn't in any rush to try these.

I'm reading the Percy Jackson sequel series now. While I prefer the first series so far and miss the funny chapter titles, I think the multiple POV characters works well for him.

But yes, these are quite fun.

I think I just got sick of teenage boy angst after trying to read the first 3 in a row. I much prefer Estep's Mythos Academy series for my school for teenage heroes fix
