jdrama: Tokyo DOGS eps 1-10 (complete)

(Yes, DOGS is capitalized. I’ve noticed this frequently happens when Japanese titles get translated into English.)

I’ve decided that, while I dislike most US procedurals for their devotion to loving depictions of dead and mutilated corpses (especially female ones) and people (way more men than women anytime I turn on one that isn’t named Bones) ( Read more... )

jdrama: tokyo dogs, jdrama, dorama

I'm kind of wondering if the title was originally written in katakana - my knowledge of Japanese is really minimal but as far as I can tell, I think often katakana words get written in all caps when translated. One of the characters in the visual novel series I was reading was translated with the last word of her sentences in all capitals and then I went back and looked up the character and apparently in the Japanese, the ends of her sentences were written in katakana.

Hmmm...interesting. I wonder what about the katakana results in that.

I'm not sure, at least for titles and stuff. I think- I'd need to ask someone with an actual grasp on the language, though- katakana is used for unusual accents in dialogue as well as for foreign words/company names/etc, hence why I think that character I mentioned in my example got translated with her sentences ending with the word in capital letters.

I liked this drama. The three-some brooding was fabulous! Why do you think there should be a second season?

Not so much that I think there should be (not that I'd object) but that the ending (will he leave or won't he, backtracking on the resolution of the romantic plotline) seemed to be deliberately setting one up. (It was actually very like the ending of the first season of BOSS, only...OTT.)

So it's worth seeing even with a weird ending? Did it make you mad? I think the closest I've been to a jdrama procedural was maybe Mr. Brain...

I liked it a lot. The ending is just "oh, jdramas..." with the openended sequel baiting.

Boos is a very good procedural, though there's one episode that we pretend doesn't exist.

Yup, that's Maruo. I prefer Sou/Oguri Shun myself, but Hiro is fun.
