To catch up or not to catch up?

More through Things Going On than design, I've managed to fall two episodes behind on The Vampire Diaries (this is also true of Nikita, but I have a habit of holding off on it so that it can serve as therapy when something else inevitably really annoys me, and I can watch Nikita imagining Nikita shooting things. And with only two episodes left to ( Read more... )

I selfishly chose "Watch now" because I can't wait to see your reaction to something Damon did last night.

My coworkers told me. it was part of why i thought it might be a good idea to wait. (Also, not like he hasn't done it before, but then it was to threaten Stefan. And we all know how well things went the last time he turned a girl into a vampire against her will. I'm also pretty sure that's what he was going to do-and finish the whole job-in the first ep of the season.)

Yeah, since you know of Damon's latest bit of unpleasantness, you should wait. He still has a couple of episodes to top that, though, and he usually finds a way to do so.

I voted that you watch it now! Although it's for the selfish reason that I'd love to see a rant about Damon's recent actions. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who reads his behaviour as obssessed and disturbing and offensive and not devoted and romantic and sweet.

I have been spoiled fort that. My rant would basically boil down to "Dear Vampire Diaries writers and fandom: Unless you subscribe to the belief that the only thing that is rape is a man tearing off a woman's clothes and forcing his 'male member' into her (in which case, you are basically buying into both rape ap;ologism and rape culture) Damon Salvatore has now raped Elena Gilbert twice. Quit cooing over it." (This also isn't his first time with that stunt, though it was for a different reason the first time.

Also, I understand Caroline is only in one ep, and Bonnie isn't in either. It kinda decreases my interest.

While you know I, of all people, am horrified and disturbed by the severity of his repeated violations of her mind and body and efforts to completely rob her of choice and free will, I must admit I have been on the periphery of several discussions involving rape survivors that left me troubled by the comparison of anything other than the actual act of rape being compared to rape - in a way, I think the cultural flippancy that often permeates dialogue concerning rape and rape culture makes it a slippery slope, no matter how emotionally equivalent the act may be.

:( I know what you mean, and I trust you, but I just feel it's problematic.

I somewhat get where you're coming from, but I find that, when it comes to paranormal fiction, that argument is most often used to explain why someone isn't having a reaction that some others are having, and trying to explain why they aren't having a reaction some part of their gut is reacting to ( ... )

I voted for, but I was ridiculously happy to see Tyler back, and giving my Caroline, favourite character by a hundred thousand miles, the Intense Looks of Love and Longing. So I am biased. ;)

Tyler serves any other purpose?

(Bonnie has always been my favorite, but Caroline has also always been pretty high up there.

It's been Caroline for me since the pilot, and part of me is outraged it took her getting superpowers (and admittedly a much better plot) to have a large segment of the viewers see it my way and love her. However, the rest of me is dizzily pleased that said segment of the viewers seem to be calling for her to be appreciated and condemning a dude for a lovely change. ;)

I feared Tyler might return werewolf-brainwashed or with lingering resentment. But I was delighted to have my fears not fulfilled, and Jules the lady werewolf had obviously been worn down on the Our-Eternal-Enemies front by sheer force of Tyler's pining. To think I would ever see the day when Tyler Lockwood on my screen was greeted with rapture! Season two, you are a strange beast.

Yeah, I give the ones who didn't like Caroline in season 1 a harsh side stare when they say she's so much better and more awesome now. Because, seriously, her personality is completely the same, she just has superpowers now and was given the chance to show that she can handle things. (Now, "I liked Caroline in season 1 but love her now" is a bit different because that's more liking a character but not being as interested due to having no plot aside from going from being abused to being a consolation prize ( ... )
