I may need to investigate more Leon Lai films.
Ah good, I'm not alone. *gg* Loved this film and this scene in particular

@ The Divine Weapon
It's one of those I could watch anytime, because it's strangely addictive, extremely entertaining, with great characters and some nice twists.
Uhm, I think I know what I'll do today.

Lai is also the other dude in An Empress and the Warriors. I enjoyed him there too, though it didn't have anything as fun as that scene for him.

I need to get Divine Weapon on DVD.

Hahahahaha! I have seen almost all of those Chinese movies, half in the theater and half on the airplane... I got to see Bodyguards and Assassins with rachelmanija when she was here, and I think the entire theater laughed as the Leon Lai Has Massive Wuxia Angst set piece began. So awesomesauce and hilarious at the same time!

(I decided I was okay with the spoilery bit of Mulan because normally it's the woman who takes herself out so the man can be all manly because women are always emotional weights for the menfolk! Also, I love that she and the princess collaborate in the end and in my head they meet frequently to discuss politics.)

re: Mulan: I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THE ENDING AND MEANT TO COMMENT ON THAT, but while I agree that it's usually the woman who takes herself out of the picture, it's also really common for men to fake their deaths, andwith men, it's usually portrayed as heroic (this was a huge motivation in my dropping the last kdrama I tried watching and made it more than a little bit into) and in this case, I felt that it played into the mansplainin'.

re: B&A: IT WAS SO GLORIOUS AND HILARIOUS AND BRILLIANT AND CORNY!! Especially, when we were, like, supposed to be feeling the angst and trauma of the people inside the building. But my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE bit of unintentional hilarity was when Donnie Yen's character met the main character in the street and gave him the little girl's doll and it was supposed to be dramatic and angsty but you could tell that what was going through his head was "OMG WHO ARE YOU AND WHY DO YOU HAVE MY DAUGHTER'S TOY???" I mean, presumably, he figured out what was going on, but still!
