I wouldn't really call Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio horror, more paranormal, or "stories of the weird/strange." They're part of a literary tradition of, essentially, News of the Weird: collections of short tales and rumors and urban legends that circulated and were written down, and then writers with pretensions towards literature got hold of them and started developing it into a genre or literary movement. If you can ILL In Search of the Supernatural: The Written Record, you can see the sort of thing that Strange Tales evolved from.

Interesting. I agree that supernatural suits it better (the adaptations I've seen, at least) but most things I've seen refer to them as horror.
