Reading Austen

As yet, Emma remains the only Austen that I've actually read (despite being familiar with all of them), but I have all of them, which means it's poll time. Note: The sooner I read one, the sooner you can get me to do something like read a book about Fanny vs. Mummies.

Pride and Prejudice is, I would say, the most popular, but I didn't actually like it that much. (Maybe too high expectations?) However, generally I would say it's the one most people like the best, which suggests that you may also like it.

I really, really disliked Sense and Sensibility. It just seemed to go on forever and I didn't care about any of the characters.

Persuasion is well-written, but I didn't get involved emotionally. On the other hand, I adored the premise of Northhanger Abbey, but it is pretty clearly a first novel; there are a lot of things about the writing that Austen was better at in her other books.

I adore Mansfield Park, which is why I voted for it. However, it generally seems to be the least popular. My impression is that a lot of people find the main character to be too passive and annoying. But I liked her!

Persuasion is my favorite, though everyone should have read Pride and Prejudice at least once.

I voted Mansfield Park, just because of Mansfield Park and Mummies. The only Austen I've ever read is Pride and Prejudice, because I fell in love with the 1987 BBC production - no, it's NOT Colin Firth. Never saw that one.

I like all Austen except Mansfield Park >.> Persuasion is really underrated IMHO. I like P&P and S&S too of the popular ones, and Northanger Abbey is rough but kind of humorous if you read it with the right amount of grain-of-salt.

Aside from Emma, I've only read Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion. I liked Persuasion a lot. I also like Pride & Prejudice and Zombies a lot.

I believe that Northranger Abbey is meant to be read as a satire of the gothics popular at the time, but I haven't read it yet.
