My opinion here is unpopular with both critics and fans of the show: Interesting concept, but poorly thought out, often totally illogical, overdramatic, and a large chunk of the dialogue made me wonder if it was supposed to be a parody.

The phone call idea was the start of it, or at least the base idea, but whatever really happened is something more. Someone mentions a 'blanket signal' so it's most likely something broadcast through various forms of tech; phones, television, radios, etc.

There's word of Felicia Day making some return appearances, so you might get your wish on seeing a continuation.

Also, this episode was written by Joss's brother Jed and his wife, so that might be why the dialogue was off, they were trying to hard to sound Joss, and futurey and cool.

The Ambrose things was more of a demonstration. He was sending the message of the new business model to the various Dollhouses that they'll be selling the Actives to people who want new bodies, for large sums of cash.

The Ambrose thing, though, demonstration or otherwise, just emphasized how that would be a total waste of their money.

I haven't seen this.

I agree with you on your assessment of "Dollhouse", though . There have been many things that didn't feel right for me, but the premise is somewhat interesting. I really liked "Omega" erisode, very promising.

"Omega" and "Needs" are the only episodes to give me hope that this could ever actually turn into a good show. Then again, they're also the only episodes to actually come close to addressing the show's problems.
