Yeah, that too. I was thinking mostly of the mother/teenaged son focus, with the mother apparently the main action character and seemingly worried about the robot alien apocalypse, as well as (to a lesser degree, regarding similarities, as it isn't as SCC centric) what seems to be a black investigator. (I also understand there's a religious subplot in season 2 of SCC, but I haven't seen it yet, and anyone who spoils will be shunned forever.)
Funny thing is, I just watched the first miniseries a few weeks ago, and I had completely forgotten that the beginning scenes with the motherships over all the major cities were so similar.
I really enjoyed the miniseries when it first aired, but suspect that it's horribly dated. There was a TV series as well which I recall not being as good.
I enjoyed the original V series a lot when I first saw it and even bought the DVDs a couple years ago for nostalgia value. But I suspect it would look very dated nowadays. All those 80s hairdos and the special FX...
Still, one thing I do remember is that there never was this strong an emphasis on religion, or religious figures going aginst the visitors, like there seems to be on the trailer of the new version.
Edit: Reminded by other comments, yes, the religious elements were mostly a reference to the Holocaust and the persecution of Jews. but from what I can see in the trailer, it looks like one of the major characters is a Catholic priest.

And the religion subplot in V is probably going to be just like any other. I can hope?

This looks really good though. I didn't realize they were remaking it!

I'm very interested in the overtly religious elements of the plot and wondering whether these were in the original, or a remake thing.
(I would say more here, but I missed the preview at Comic Con in favor of other things.)
