Ellen will live for the same reason the fans tolerated her instead of crucifying her like Jo and Bela. She's a mom, and therefore no "threat," either as a love interest or as a heroine. (To people's way of thinking.) It's like how fandom loathed Ruby when she showed up, liked her when they learned she was ademon, and thus not likely to be a heroine or a love interest, and then (I follow this fandom because I hate myself) hated her as soon as S4 started and it was clear she might actually be having a thing with Sam.
But you know, if they do kill Jo? It will finally let me live in eternal hatred.
I mean, it's impressive how much S3 made me hate Dean, given how huge a crush I had on him before it.
I KNOW!!! And, like, shouldn't we be HAPPY that characters we like are returning after disappearing two seasons ago? When we are, instead, FILLED WITH DREAD, it is a sign.
See my comment about this fandom and women elsewhere in the post.
I admit, my "Jo is a sekrit Winchester" thing is that, while I would have been perfectly willing to go along with Jo/Dean in season 2 if the show went that way, I'm more interested in Jo as a character period than who she's likely to be making out with, and if she was a relative, then she would no longer be a threat as a love interest on the show, and most of the hatred would die fast. (And, you know, given this fandom, the shippers could continue on as they pleased even if Jo was suddenly their baby sister or whatever.) But, eventually, I came to actually like the idea.
And I ALMOST watched that episode because peoplewere talking about Jo and Ellen, but then I found out that they were just mentioned and didn't actually show up, and I was saved.

Also, I have a longheld, deep seated belief that there will somehow be a reveal that Jo or Jo and Ellen both are somehow related to the Winchesters.
