So Enchanting by Connie Brockway

The back cover copy of this book is atrocious. Ignore it. When this book came out in February, I saw it, realized it was Connie Brockway writing a historical, made a tiny squeaking sound in the bookstore and brought it home. Then I read the back cover copy and saw talk of magic and Scotland and the hero ruining the heroine’s life six years earlier ( Read more... )

"And did I mention the supporting character who joined the army and went to India purely because it would give him opportunities to expand his stamp collection?"

If you want to know anything about Indian stamps just ask... anything I don't know off the top of my head I can get out of one of my catalogues.

This sounds pretty awesome. It's been awhile since I've read a Brockway book. My copy of All Through the Night is coming apart and My Dearest Enemy is such a comfort read for me. I think with the exception of that whole butter-sculpture/contemporary affair, I've liked all of her novels I've read. She's so good at creating no-nonsense, likable heroines and her books often have (*gasp*) plot. So I'm rather curious about this one. What about the hero, though? Is he tolerable?

Man I've been thinking about reading this one since several people have told me it's good and I love connie brockway's stories even though she tends to be hit or miss but when she hits she really hits. My library's copies of this book are all out atm. Luckily I have other things to read in the meantime but I'm looking forward to reading this one when I finally get ahold of it. It sounds adorable! Even though I confess I tend to prefer darker romances but a good charming funny story is never a bad thing.

I finally read this earlier in the week. I had to get it through inter-library loan. It was a really enjoyable book & I agreed with everything you said. Though I thought there wasn't enough buildup/explanation to Grey suddenly showing up at the end. Why? He just decided she was most important so he'd believe in anything? I didn't get that part - it felt like a few pages got skipped.

I also felt the "woah - look at his biceps ripple, and her dress sheath her body" was a bit rediculous - it reminded me of certain descriptions regarding a stone-like vampire. But it & the sex scenes (I count the 2nd makeout in there) are token throwins to fit the romance bill, I suppose. Both felt highly unnecessary to me. Like she doesn't have enough confidence in herself writing an engaging story without the promise of sex to entice the readers...
