Art: Christmas Invention

Dec 17, 2012 18:36

I suppose this could conceivably be a spoiler for Cold Fusion: Twelve Days.  Honestly, it's just a picture of Megamind making Roxanne's Christmas present, and since one of the advent calendar prompts was something along the lines of "Megamind invents a Christmas present," I figured I'd go ahead and post it a little early.  Well, early for the fic ( Read more... )

There are a couple of new additions if you read it on Livejournal! You can listen to the song Wayne plays, and there's a picture of Sundown's true form in Chapter 12.

I'm really happy you like the picture! The shading could be better, but I'm pretty happy with it.

And it's funny you should say I need to do more drawings...I have three or four illustrations coming up for chapters that haven't been posted yet. I've actually been working on bits and pieces of Twelve Days for over a year, so... XD

Nice!
I've read your post and looked at your picture, and now I'm just in a really good mood because of it, ready to go to bed (with my iPad, maybe I'll have a look at your fanfic).

^^ So glad my drawing was able to make you happy! (And I'd absolutely love it if you looked at my fic, but fair warning, it's...kind of long.)

I love this so much. Both the idea of the gift, and the lovely picture you've drawn. Your hard work (and suffering) with learning to blow glass shows. You've drawn everything so wonderfully detailed and realistic. :) I love it.

And I'm so excited to reread the "final" version of Hallows Eve. :D I love the little bits you add to the versions on your LJ. And dear god, Sundown is really freaking creepy. And I gotta to know; are his ears actually cut, or is that part of his normal form?

^^ Actually learning how to do some glassblowing definitely helped with the drawing side of it, I have to say! Like how his hands would go. That's probably the least comfortable sitting position ever, but you really can't rest your elbows on the table or you lose a lot of control. Iunno man. It's weird.

I'm going back and adding in those little bits right now! It's always a neat experience to see what I wrote with fresh eyes, you know?

Sundown's ears are cut artificially. Ear movements are a form of non-verbal communication among members of his race, but most Carrollians cut their ears to keep them from getting torn off. He cut his shorter than usual after he got to Earth so that he'd blend in more easily.

I wanted to comment yesterday, but LJ was dead for an unknown reason.
I really love your picture (to be honest, I didn´t know, that you draw, too). Great job! And I love the idea, that Megs doing lampworking (since I was at a college for glass arts, where there lampworking education was taught, too....but I didn´t learn it, because I choose glasscarving and -grinding).

I think Megamind makes a lot of his own glassware, honestly. There are some things he does that require strange pieces of equipment, and it makes sense to me that he would make his own. It's so cool that you learned glasscarving and grinding! I wish I knew how to do that!

I do draw, though I'm better at building scenes through writing because I am awful at drawing backgrounds.

I love that you go for as much plausibility as you can in your fics. That sort of attention to detail shows how much effort you put into making it possible for your reader to suspend disbelief. I scrutinize sc-fi/fantasy art in the same way. It's easier to believe something imaginary COULD exists if it's grounded in reality. So it's nice when artists take some elements of reality into account... like physics. XD

My original tendencies in fanworks (years ago) were towards hypercompetent mary-sue characters and similarly implausible/inane plots, so now I compensate by having a stick up my butt when it comes to plausibility in my own fics. XD Of course, sometimes things just are not possible in real life, but I try to minimize those or make up explanations. It works.
