I was reading an online article recently explaining from a guy's perspective why it is better to wait till marriage to have sex. I'm certainly not trying to change people's opinions one way or the other. What people do concerning their own private sex life is none of my business unless someone chooses to disclose that information.

I just thought what he wrote was interesting and curious how this might be applicable to a Megamind fanfic. I know how a lot of people love the porn and smut--it can be entertaining, but it doesn't always do it for me. Probably because I don't consider myself a romantic and am not constantly thinking about sex.

On a related topic, one of my current fics involves Megamind being, er, familiar with a girl back in high school. Let’s just say the terms ‘illegitimate’ and ‘child’ might very well play a major role in the story.
My question is if this should be AU or not. Nothing in canon keeps the events of the story from taking place, but I don't think it's actually true.
This is my rather rambling way of asking what exactly is the difference between an Alternate Universe fic and a normal fic? In my experience, AU means there would be major changes to the events of the movie. As far as I can tell at this point, the movie itself would go on completely unaffected.

If this event does not alter the events of the movie I'm inclined to say that it is not AU.

cgaussie wrote a fanfic which portrayed Megamind as a vampire/monster hunter--this is AU. If I were to write a fanfic replacing the original Star Trek characters w/ the cast of Megamind that would be AU.
