How about accounts that have content that is all in Russian? (Like the one we just got.) I'm *sure* we have Russian fans, but so much of the spam comes from those accounts since LJ is Russian-based now.

And since I know I'll feel very badly if I inadvertently reject someone who is a genuine fan, I'll just reiterate what Filthy said: if we misinterpret your intent and you get unintentionally denied, just shoot us a PM! :)

I just looked-- Hard to say, they don't speak English. :/ We can leave them in the queue for now... If they're spamming enough they'll be banned in a day or so anyway, so we'll know if they're safe or not soon.

Sounds fair! I'll keep an eye on it.

I didn´t have problems with heavy spamming here on LJ so far. Just 2 or 3 , which was not an annoying problem for me. But I noticed a new trick of spammers on DA. The spammers commented nicely on an uploaded picture and posted a spam link the same time. I reported the comments as spam and the DA-operators deleted them. I wonder, if the LJ-operators could offer such a service, too and don´t let the mods of the communties do all the work with it. I feel sorry for all new, honest MM-fans, who would like to join the comm and can´t do it so easily now, because of all the spam crap. But what can we do otherwise?

Yeah, it sucks. Most of the spam comments are on older posts, and not just in this community, for me. It's the downside of making the community searchable on Google. Megamind fans find us easily when they look for Megamind stuff, but spambots find us, as well.

Ugh, I noticed the same thing! Not on my own pictures, yet, but on popular ones. I accidentally followed one such link thinking, silly me, that it was something actually relevant to the conversation. Nearly had a heart-attack and back-paged out of there as quick as I could.
Good Lord, I hate spam so much...

yep, necessary evil. We do the best we can to keep the spambots from taking over.

. . . though I feel our prior policy of allowing any spambot who can stay on topic to stick around as our community mascot stands. Make sure not to ban any that opine on the nipple debate or blue tentacles.

- Snickers - We are such a hilariously perverted community, aren't we? Where else would that kind of sentence make any sense?

Hey, half the spambots are into porn. There's bound to be one that's into our niche interests.

. . . fic idea: Hal gets a comment on his largely ignored blog from someone who claims they work with him and have a crush on him. He assumes the link was broken after ending up at the spam site, and then spends the next day assuming Roxanne sent it. Her efforts to convince him otherwise make him think she's playing hard-to-get, and she ends up just asking Minion to blast him with the amnesia spray before her next kidnapping.
