SWAG ALERT

Well, sort of!

Juno alerted me a little while ago that her roommate had brought back some coloring books, part of a series called "Dreamworks All Stars", from the local dollar store. I checked Ebay and there seem to be four books (1, 2, 3, 4) and one larger book from Toys"R"Us. Juno's unsure if any of the pages are new (I'm going to guess no, they ( Read more... )

If you check out the front page of Box Office Mojo it has a "Showdown" between Megamind and Puss. Puss is apparently doing worse than Megamind in total gross, opening weekend, and comparing this week in its run to Megamind's. I'm hoping that will help alleviate the "stink of failure" from around poor Megamind.

Dreamworks has to realize that nothing is ever going to be as big as Shrek ever again. Shrek had the luxury of being one of the first movies to have incredible CG animation, and it spoofed Disney who, at the time, had been the only game in town. That just isn't possible now, and I wish they'd realize that. :(

Well, one can hope DW will get the message eventually... Obviously sales should not be the only thing they look at, and if they do, maybe they should consider revamping their poor marketing campaigns. Maybe this will be the kick in the pants they need to realize Megamind's not dead at all and they should make more of it! :D

She didn't say, I forgot to ask-- but the previous ones I was able to find from a local Dollar General.

She's in Florida like me, so I'm going to guess it's one of the major chains here-- Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree. But honestly, I've seen various Dreamworks coloring books scattered across all of them in the past. /shrug

I don't even know this poster or that story but something about deleting accounts and stories just makes me sad.

I hate to sound like I'm lecturing someone about what to do with their life, but I feel like when you put out a fanfic on the internet for a fandom, you let it loose into the world and encourage people to make an emotional connection to it. To take away that connection just seems crappy to me. Blergh.

I feel like even if we never get another sequel and this fandom withers and dies, this site should remain as a monument to proudly show the world who we were and what we loved. But I'm a shamelessly sentimental librarian like that.

I'm surprised Puss isn't doing well, it go great reviews. Haven't seen it but I assumed it would do well.

As for DWA, looks like they're putting all their chips into the Dragon sequels (I think they have six planned). Now, I love that movie, but six sequels is undoubtably running it into the ground. Only one thing is worse than not enough, and that's too much. See The Land Before Time. First movie I ever saw in the theater, wonderful film all around. Blew my 8 year old dinosaur-loving mind. Then there was something like ten dtv sequels and now that's all anybody thinks of when you mention The Land Before Time.

I just looked, there were 12. D8

And I saw Puss-- it was fine. I actually don't have too much to say about it. It was a good "sit down and shut up, turn your brain off" kind of movie. But I didn't come out amazed like I had with Megamind or KFP2. It's just what it is-- a good, well-animated movie. It just... I don't know. It's like they're trying very hard to revive a dying franchise and it's painfully obvious, even if it's nothing like Shrek-- they could be using that same energy on bringing Megamind back to life and look 100% less lame about it, and I guess that's what annoys me the most.

12?? Holy mackerel. That's twice as greedy and cash-grabby as I assumed.

Oops, thought you meant 12 HTTYD sequels. But still.
