Leslie and I were robbed at knife point by five charming Oakland residents last night.  This happened about three blocks from our apartment.  All they took was my wallet, but the cop I talked to said we were very lucky, because most of the muggings here end in stabbings, shootings, beatings, what have you ( Read more... )

sorry to hear that...
If you are interested in staying in oakland, look closer to west oakland/emeryville border or even (cough) temescal (cough) or if you are considering back to sf, let me know as I too am looking for a place and well, wouldn't mind splitting a place with some friends...

and on a more serious note, I'm glad to know that you did talk to the police and filed a report as all too often people dont follow through on that and criminals just get away with their actions with impunity. Hopefully if/when they get caught, the fact that you did talk to the cops will throw an extra charge or two against them.

Glad you two are okay...

You realize that without a car Alameda is nearly inaccessible to us. We would have to ride our bikes to fruit vale BART to get anywhere.

And we're poor. If we could have afforded Berkeley we would have been there instead.

i call malarkey! the 50, the 51, the 19, and the O all run right by my place alone, within like 4 minutes walking, and they all go straight to BART- and the O runs all night and goes directly to SF! furthermore, while we're paying a fair amount for our place because it's FRICKIN' HUGE, alameda is generally incredibly cheap. the place i had with shannon from '03-'05 was $1050 per month, which included water and garbage, and it was a 2 bed 1.5 bath place with two stories. and that wasn't even considered that amazing, and things should be -cheaper- now!

sorry, can't rant anymore, kitten trying to cuddle me.

How hard would you consider it to bike to bart? Because the buses are really expensive.
