I too would love to see what you've done with your game, especially in Desiderata Valley where I find I generally have no enthusiasm, although I'm thinking of borrowing that tropical idea too ;)
I don't think EA had any enthusiasm with DV either. Everything about it is so uninspired. The houses just seem to be thrown in there at random, and some of them are without doubt the WORST, most sloppy building I've ever seen from EA. One had a 4x5 bathroom with 1 toilet and 1 shower in it. I do like some of the characters, though. Making their faces seems to be the only thing they spent any time on.
The tropical idea is a pretty great one, I think. It gives the 'hood a whole new feel, instead of just being a really, really bad Pleasantview ripoff.
I'd like to see it too. I love Maxis makeovers, especially of the hood and lot kind.
Desiderata Valley would go well as a topical hood. I was thinking of turning mine into a desert terrain, as in my head, it just south of the main cluster of hoods and north of strangetown. In fact I was thinking of making a map of where the different hoods are in relation to each other. [/geekiness]
Ooh, maps. I have a map in my head, too, although it's changed around a bit since I first created the uberhood. :) I imagine DV to be just south-west of Strangetown, by the sea. Twiikii Island is somewhere further south in that sea. The rest of the hoods are further north-west, Riverblossom Hills being the furthest north (aside from Three Lakes). Maybe I should draw it, too. I really liked seeing your version on your journal!
I can never remember whether it was Riverblossom Hills that was intended to have no summer or whether I am imaging that. I know I always have it as the full four seasons in my game. I always have Strangetown as 3 summers and a spring, whereas DV has 2 summers, 1 spring and 1 autumn/fall. Everything else is four seasons except the BV hoods who have whatever they were packaged with.
Riverblossom Hills does indeed start with Winter - Spring - Autumn - Winter.
I keep it that way. Currently the plan for the others is 4 Summers for DV and ST (and La Fiesta Tech), all four seasons for Veronaville, Pleasantview and possibly downtown, as well as ALT and Sim State, and 1 spring, 2 summers and 1 autumn for BC and BV. I'll probably keep the vacation hoods the way they are, too.
In my head, Veronaville is close to Riverblossom Hills, which kind of screws up the idea of half of it being mediterranean... but then again, with seasons, that doesn't make any sense anyway. You can't have two different climates in the same neighbourhood. So I'll just do the makeovers accordingly.
Whoa! You really have some interesting ideas for your new uberhood. First the job thing you explained in the comment to my journal and now this tropical island. I'd love to see some pictures, too
( ... )
I hope it will be fun. Heheh, I haven't played that much yet, but I'm enjoying doing all the makeovers. Will definitely post some pictures soon, when I find the time. :)
Ah, yes, the marriage/love flags. Someone else was having trouble with this, too. I don't know what causes it, 'cause in my game, while I got the '2 loves' memory if the widow(er) fell in love again, they had no trouble getting married and got no memory of cheating. I suspect it might be a hack difference or something.
Either way, I am fixing this in the new version. :) I'm fixing various other little things as well. I don't know when the new version will be released yet, though, as the face fixes aren't done yet. But before the end of the year, I hope!
