except cigarettes look good on film and are therefore OK.

this MSG isn't really suited to a visual medium, unfortunately. so it doesn't even have the pleasure of being a vice.

but don't worry, eventually we'll all be drinking coca cola, peeling fried chicken skins and sniffing candy rockets, because it's all that is affordable. sleep well, franke! ;) i know i'm not either.

but you have your celebrity rags to avoid the sugary snuff, and i've my hunger-killing nicotine to fight the poulty. we'll make it! really.

the only other consolation? the rich are chipping their teeth on the same food we are. they just have their personal trainers (and i'd rather shun time-worn advice like eat your MSG'ed broccoli).

msg: flavour enhancing neurotoxin. basically salt on steroids. odorless and flavourless: if you put pure msg on your tongue, you'll taste something, but that's not actually the msg you're tasting; it's an illusion caused by misfiring nerves. if you eat processed food of any kind, you're probably eating the stuff. oh yeah, it's extra common in asian food because it occurs naturally in seaweed, so its flavour enhancing properties have been known much longer in japan, the land where they eat any fucking thing that's ever been in the ocean. they freak me out ( ... )

eh, it's really not that bad. it's naturally found in pretty much every kind of food with protein in it. wikipedia has a pretty decent article on the stuff. it's sort of like cheese; cheese is a delicious treat, but eat it on MAO inhibitors, and it'll kill you. well, msg is neurotoxic, but it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier, so you need a hell of a lot to damage yourself.
