My first received letter of this year was from the "GEZ"....(the German institution that takes a fee for public television and radio. They don't use GEZ anymore but their new name's too long.)
Oh man...better not taking that for an omen.....

And you?

Haven't received any yet!! ;)
I still am horrified that the GEZ know people's names!! In the UK the TV licensing people have records of properties, not who lives there. I never gave the buggers my name.
It is more sensible doing it by property anyway because then you don't get sent a letter if someone else at your property has a license. I got sent one and Dirk had paid for this place so then we had to let them know the fees had been paid for here. Total waste of time.

It's the same with GEZ since last year. You and Dirk only have to pay once. It used to be different. I had to osy for my car's radio at least but they changed that. If they fibd you you just have to tell that soneobe altesdy oays for the pkace you live in.

I know only one of us has to pay, but it is stupid that they send the letter to us both. The TV licensing in the UK has records of properties and whether or not those properties have a TV license at them. So if you move into a place where there isn't a TV license they will send a letter 'To the occupant of 12 High Street' saying there is no TV license there and can you please either get a license or let them know that you don't have a TV. And supposedly there is a van that goes around to check on properties where the occupants either haven't answered or have said they have no TV, though it never visited me. I would let them know I didn't have a TV but never gave them my name. (Also, of course, in the UK you only have to pay it if you have a TV or you watch live broadcasts on your computer, I was very careful never to watch live broadcasts).

Heh, my first mail of the year was hairsticks! From Germany actually, since I am trying a new woodturner. (My old favourite has gotten too expensive as he became popular)
