Summary in Rush

Dec 23, 2007 00:25

Last month I finished my paper. At 4 in the morning when I tried printing them out, the printer died (T_T) So I rushed to Kinko's that morning, managed to have it printed out (turned out nice!) and turned it in on time! Hahaaaa ... the interview is in January OTL *banging my head* I basically typed it out in two weeks... I really should have spent ( Read more... )

One could argue, of course, that using internet aliases is being anonymous in a way - it certainly makes no difference if one only makes one post in a topic. It's the subsequent pattern that follows as the online persona is created through multiple discussions posts and perhaps fanfics written that creates, if not always something that is concurrent with same said person's real life personality, even so a distinct set of expectations that other people react to in one way or another. Internet is interesting in that it promotes both a great level of anonymousness and a setting in which a lot of people are inclined to reveal personal things about themselves that even those who spend time with them on a regular basis IRL do not know about them ( ... )

Yeah, I've always been curious to what extent net users consider themselves "anomymous" online. Most people like to give themselves names to be distinguished from the pool of others. And I think that's quite a difference from total anonymity like in the case of the Jap forum where you do not even know to whom you are talking to. You don't even know whom to thank for help or whom to be angry with when attacked ( ... )

Are there any of those really ugly insult-exchanges going on, at those forums? I could be wrong, bur based on what little I know about Japanese people (based on for example the stories of my boyfrien'd's brother, who has a Japanese girlfriend), I would probably assume that such a thing as an anonymous forum is really only workable in a culture where civility and courtousness is so so inherent. It would get out of hand in no time, in an American forum, I'd say. Not quite as bad in a Swedish forum, I think, but still bad (Swedes are generally, by foreign terms, considered blunt to the point of rudeness and therefore a bit less prone to take offense than the Americans I've met online). This is all generalization and speculation, of course, but it's the only manner in which we can discuss these things, without having experienced all aspects ourselves.

You may have seen things get ugly at various Western GW discussion boards/MLs and the like a few times, that happens on a regular basis. And that's with internet aliases and mods with the ( ... )

There are many freaks who live on the forum to troll and flame... Japanese do not confront each other directly, and open display of one's feelings is still discouraged. It could be a factor on the anonymity and the Japanese. Some threads attacking certain public figures nauseated me x_X
I haven't seen what kind of ugly things can happen on English GW forums, but on Jap one there are constant battles between GW fans and fans of other series, like Gundam X. ^^;

[...] a joy that defies description
Seriously, I could not have put it any better. (T_T) That is precisely the reason why I did not write an extensive log about my week in Tokyo. The pics I took are merely some impressions of things that made me laugh, frown, dream, or wonder. At some moments I felt like a tourist in my own mind, for experiencing thoughts and emotions strangely unfamiliar. >(*o*)It was a pleasure beyond pleasures to meet you, Mimi, and I would love to have sushi at Kisen Zushi with you again, and hang about Harajuku and spy on unsuspecting Karaoke boats... and wonder about the strange evil pepper bath salt, and run around wearing white masks. (T_T) When? I don't know ( ... )
