I feel like I start a lot of comments lately with OMG SQUEE YOU WROTE IT.

But, OMG! SQUEE! YOU WROTE IT!

My absolute favorite thing about this is Alex's fixation on finding out what's bothering Tony. Here she's had this completely crappy day but she forgets all that to worry about him at the slightest hint that somethings off with him. And, at cross-purposes as almost always, Tony because he's completely focused on making her happy and can't stand the thought of bringing her down with his issues. Oh, you lovely frustrating people.

Speaking of making Alex happy, I adore this: She is smiling, a proper smile, and he feels suddenly as if he has achieved something great. And also the way Ben's just so genuinely happy the minute Tony shows up.

I also really liked Tony's reaction to Gabriel and to learning Gabriel's name. It's so rare that Tony actually hates anyone but it makes perfect sense that hurting Alex and Ben would do it.

Oh, and how perfectly did you describe Alex's reaction to Tony? Her eyes close and she seems ( ... )

You know what I just this second realised? Although it seems like it would be counter-intuitive, I think expending all her energy on worrying about Tony does indeed make Alex happy. It's just even more screwed up than we thought - Tony doesn't burden her with his crap because he doesn't want to bring her down, which makes Alex worry more, and besides, there's nothing she enjoys more than worrying and fussing over him, and looking after him and doing her best to make him happy. THEY ARE SO AT CROSS-PURPOSES IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY ANYMORE.

And although it wasn't touched on in the ep, I knew Alex wouldn't be able to let Tony's 'I need cheering up too' line go. She doesn't miss that stuff, not when it's him.

I definitely Tony gets a kick from it whenever he makes Alex smile or laugh. I can't think of any examples right now, but I'm sure there's actual on-screen moments when he looks a little bit surprised at his own ability to make her happy. (Maybe the beginning of 6.01? I'm not sure, but WE'LL SEE IN OUR REWATCH, SUGAR.)

It's so rare ( ... )

Shut up! You are so smart and so so right! Alex is so happy when she gets a chance to help Tony. All she wants is to fix him and snuggle him and make him all better. Even when he doesn't tell her what's wrong, she knows it's something so then she just frets but has no outlet for her stressing over her boo. If/when he just tells her, she can do her best to cheer him up with wine or snuggles or naked time or whatever and then she's escstatic because she cheered him up. And Tony's so oblivious that he doesn't realize by trying to keep her happy, he's actually making her miserable. THEY ARE RIDICULOUS ( ... )
