See it? Isn't it the most adorable thing ever??
I love the Moomins. My mum used to read the Tove Jansson books to me when I was little, and she even had grand plans to write a PhD thesis on them! I have such a love for anything remotely Scandinavian; it must be that little scrap of Danish blood in my family tree that pulls me toward the North.

Secondly I was utterly disturbed on so many levels because of district 9. I almost walked out of the movie, several times. The message was good, and it got me to think and on the whole I thought it was really well done. But my constitution was not strong enough for that movie. And to be honest I don't think I remember the last shot of the film. I think I was too numb at that point.
Also, I'm not sure I know what the moomins are, other than they were in a mashup of different audio from movies and such in this youtube video. but i'll add it to the growing list of things you've recommended. :)

Yeah, District 9 disturbed me pretty terribly too. I agree with what you said; I thought it was very well done and had this excellent message, but then the last scene just ruined the whole thing! (The last scene being the shot of Vikkus having become completely 'prawn', sitting amongst the rubbish making little metal flowers for his wife) I took that scene as saying 'Oh, isn't this horrible, that he's become one of them, now his life is a misery', which runs completely contrary to the ethos of the whole movie, imo. It just really, really annoyed me. And I think it kinda reflected the prejudice that still very much exists against mixed-race relationships (from blacks, coloured and white Afrikkaners) in South Africa - why couldn't Vikkus go back to his wife, if the whole point of the film was to encourage the belief that the aliens are just as 'human' as us? The whole thing just stunk by the end. But then again, I suppose the filmmakers would argue that that is ( ... )
