I learned a lot about this, out in Reno this past week. Cooling and energy efficiency are among the biggest differentiators that the computer companies have right now. It all comes down to the fact that when you multiply *anything* by 1,000, it becomes large.

Computers are best understood as devices that translate power into heat, and throw off a little bit of residual computation along the way.
