It's been a hard few days. In fact I feel like I have been mourning for a long, long time, since Mino had been sick for many months and I have been trying to prepare for this all this time, in a way saying goodbye every night. So there are equal parts of sadness and some strange sort of feeling of relief

I felt exactly the same way about my horse. What made it worse was that he was still fairly healthy, but unable to move out of his stable, therefore unable to graze. This was no life for a horse, so I made the decision to have him put down. When I called the vet in to do the dark deed, I was told that one of his hooves was necrotising and it was the kindest thing anyway.

I don't think it makes the loss any easier to begin with, but at least you know you did your very best by that animal, and that he never knew fear or distress in your keeping. Nor will he ever know any fear or distress in the future. So hold your head up high, and be proud of what you did for your cat, and remember your time together with happiness because you were priviliged to have this companion in your life, even if it was for a short time in human terms.

I still miss my horse, and I also miss the four cats I've known through the years. I still dream of them, too...

It's probably not much help... At least you have some more cats to help take your mind off things. When I lost the horse, I stayed away from horses for years.
