I am a hopeless commercial critic. It's pointless and petty, but I can't seem to not do it. Part of the blame is art school, where there were occasional assignments of "Here is an ad. Gender roles in commercials are insane. I saw one recently for a moisturizer marketed for men. Usually moisturizer commercials aim at women, and are all about luxuriating and maybe fighting wrinkles and show a lot of ribbons and silk and women feeling themselves up. This commercial, though, looked like that parody Powerthirst commercial. "MEN! You are MANLY, and even MANLY skin dries out! This is a BADASS MOISTURIZER made with lightning--REAL LIGHTNING!" It was weird.

LOL! Yeah, the gender stuff is bizarre! All "MACHO MAN!" or "Tee hee, Stepford!" And it tends to be either household cleaning/fixing items or personal grooming items that do it the most.
Which is likely why I adore this commercial so much. ;D
