holy ouch, on Daphne's stone and the cost of the surgery! She must be in so much pain. ;( Any chance your vet would let you pay in installments? Mine was really great about it when my Bub broke his leg and let me pay the $600 bill over 6 months. (I'll definitely be getting pet insurance when I have a bun again.)
I was going to suggest that too. Sometimes if the vet knows you and knows you're trustworthy (which I'm sure they do), they might be able to work with you. It's defintely worth asking.
Oh, I'm so sorry. About Daphne, about the money, about it all.
I've been looking into pet insurance. It's looking like Zuna's going to need knee surgery after all (she was doing well, then she jumped on a counter and it dislocated again). The cost will be over $2000. But it has to be done.
With this many critters, we really need pet insurance. I'll let you know if I find anything good.
Meanwhile *hugs for all of you*. I understand so well.
If we find something good we'll let you know too! Poor Zuna... ouch... but I know just what you mean about it has to be done. *pets a Daphne and sighs* I know you know all too well how it is. Here's hoping the rest of the year goes much more smoothly for our critters and ourselves *knocks on wood!*
