When I felt like my apartment complex might have been screwing me over I did some research on the Landlord/Tenant Act. There are specific regulations regarding when and how a landlord can make changes. It will likely vary from state to state.
Thank you! It's good to have the gay mafia on your side. ^_^
That looks more relavant than the stuff I was finding on findlaw.com. Sounds like they should be giving us at least another two weeks... Karen's going to go down to the office tomorrow and ask WTF, just to see if maybe someone had put too much crack in their coffee before writing up the flyer. If not, we'll see where things go from there...
At least from what I'm hearing, water and sewage isn't typically all that high (although I have my doubts out here in the desert), we're getting hosed either way but not homeless hosed so yeah...

I would too, in fact I kind of am, just reading it.
Get legal advice, is my advice. Now.
If necessary, go to the Housing Authority. Even if you are not nor ever have been on HUD Section 8, they have offices available to the public, and in most cases--here in Californica, anyway--are able to answer questions about landlord/tenant issues. And they are very pro-tenant.
If it weren't for your needing more space than I can offer, I'd say move in here. I have a nice room for rent. And the neighborhood's pretty nice too. So far.
Seriously, get legal advice. I don't think your landlord is doing things kosherly, and you have rights, in any case.

Thank you! I have a kick ass flist. Karen's going to check with them to see if we're reading this all right (it sure looks like it!) and most folks are saying water and sewage isn't all that expensive... So I don't think we're at *must* move hosed at this point, but still I think we are getting screwed. ugh. But we're going to make damn sure what they're doing is kosher before we let anything happen.
That's so sweet to offer the room though! Yeah, we need a lot of space, and little Irwin is illegal in california because he's technically "native wildlife" even though he was born in Texas. But the thought is sweet!
I am calming down a bit, and Karen is being a rock (one of us needs to at any given time! :P ) so we'll figure this out... I'm pissed at the timing though... Ugh!
We're definitely checking into it! Our lease is up mid/late November.
We've never paid water and sewer before anywhere we've rented, and living in the desert we're leery... we're going to find out about how much that runs around here. $40 isn't too bad, but I still think we're getting hosed... just not as badly hosed as I initially thought. We shall see! And thank you!
As a bonus, the notice/flyer had holiday stuff all over it. It was very "Happy Holidays, and fuck you!" :( Ugh... We'll figure it all out... Karen's on the job, I'm too pmsed to function.

That said, water and sewer is usually a pretty small bill. Ours runs about $40 for the huge townhouse, and this is San Diego and all.
