[Have a crooked shot of an extremely happy Break. A little pale and worn, maybe-- being dead is difficult no matter how many times you've done it-- but the strain is hardly visible through the wide grin. He's no longer in the formalwear he arrived in, instead wearing a
new coat that's rather out of line with the current fashion or any other fashion

...And what the hell is Break wearing?! Really, though, Mello wouldn't put it past him to dress like... that if given the choice. He seems like enough of a nutjob.]
Wonderful to see you're alive, Xerxes Break, that's a lovely coat you've got there. Are you going to try and make your escape by using those sleeves to fly over the city walls?
I've got a question for you, though, yeah? What was happening here before you... fell asleep? [Because, well, he's got absolutely no clue what Break knows about; had he even witnessed the whole thing with the birds before he'd presumably died?]

Why thank you, Mello! I suppose I could try, but I suspect that arrows from the guards could ruin it. That would be a horrible shame.
[He sobers a bit at the question. He keeps his tone carefully light, but he looks tired.]
Mmm, last I remember there was a lot of death going around. The plague, I believe? Unpleasant business, really.
Reply
[He sounds rather more pleasant in response to Break's answer, though. Whatever was going on in this city was the most important of his priorities right now.]
Hmm... Anything about birds?
Reply
Of course Mr. Ross. How could I forget? My deepest apologies.
[It's never a good sign when he's using that much italics. But anyhow, the next bit is interesting.]
Birds? Mmm, well, there seemed to be a very loud one coming round the tenant house, but it was more of an annoyance than anything else.
[Bald-faced lie. That shit was just wrong. :| ]

I haven't seen you in quite a while. Has all been well? It's April second, by the way.

[That's... a long time. He doesn't like knowing that he's missed so much.]
Reply
Ah, of course I am! I've recovered a fine thing from my home world.
[He continues to nuzzle the fabric.]
Well enough, aside from the bit with the plague. And what have you been up to, hmm?

I like the coat! It's different! Too many people are afraid of different, but I like it.
I've been getting back to doing readings. It bothers me that I've lost some of my regulars and I didn't read death in any of their fortunes. It's really unusual.

[If Break had reappeared right after the plague victims died in droves, the reception would have been entirely different. Alois might have even clung to his leg just so he wouldn't have had to be alone!.]
That coat only makes you look like more of a clown.
Reply
[He pauses a moment when Alois calls him a clown. There's only one other person who calls him that, and come to think of it, he hasn't seen her in a while... can chains catch the plague? Is that even possible?]
Have you been speaking to a young lady, by any chance? About your age, black hair, red dress, probably eating the landlady out of house and home...
Reply
[Okay, maybe not.] There is something.. you eluded to before.
[The young lady in question had mistaken him for someone else in her short stay in Avon. As a result, at least over the devices he'd spent some speaking with her]
What are you going on about now--
You mean that idiot who tried to eat her own device?
Reply
Hmm? What was it?
[Oh, Alice.]
That's the one, yes. I do hope her intelligence doesn't rub off on you too, charming as it is. Have you seen her lately?
