[Have a crooked shot of an extremely happy Break. A little pale and worn, maybe-- being dead is difficult no matter how many times you've done it-- but the strain is hardly visible through the wide grin. He's no longer in the formalwear he arrived in, instead wearing a new coat that's rather out of line with the current fashion or any other fashion ( Read more... )

[Mello is a little bit surprised to see Break, mostly because he hasn't in quite a long while. He'd sort of assumed the guy had just died for good, as he didn't appear to have come back along with everyone else who had, but he supposes it's a good thing to see that he hasn't.

...And what the hell is Break wearing?! Really, though, Mello wouldn't put it past him to dress like... that if given the choice. He seems like enough of a nutjob.]

Wonderful to see you're alive, Xerxes Break, that's a lovely coat you've got there. Are you going to try and make your escape by using those sleeves to fly over the city walls?

I've got a question for you, though, yeah? What was happening here before you... fell asleep? [Because, well, he's got absolutely no clue what Break knows about; had he even witnessed the whole thing with the birds before he'd presumably died?]

Still video- who cares if he can't point it properly, he's got a coat to show off. B) omnomnomsweets April 2 2011, 20:00:11 UTC
[He makes a wide gesture for the sole purpose of letting his sleeves flop around again. God, he missed this.]

Why thank you, Mello! I suppose I could try, but I suspect that arrows from the guards could ruin it. That would be a horrible shame.

[He sobers a bit at the question. He keeps his tone carefully light, but he looks tired.]

Mmm, last I remember there was a lot of death going around. The plague, I believe? Unpleasant business, really.

[He narrows his eyes, a bit displeased. Is Break ever going to stop calling him that? It isn't really a problem so long as nobody from his world shows up here, but he can't count on that.] My name's Morris Ross.

[He sounds rather more pleasant in response to Break's answer, though. Whatever was going on in this city was the most important of his priorities right now.]

Hmm... Anything about birds?

[A pause and then a mischievous grin. His tone is way too sweet now.]

Of course Mr. Ross. How could I forget? My deepest apologies.

[It's never a good sign when he's using that much italics. But anyhow, the next bit is interesting.]

Birds? Mmm, well, there seemed to be a very loud one coming round the tenant house, but it was more of an annoyance than anything else.

[Bald-faced lie. That shit was just wrong. :| ]

You seem very cheerful Mr. Break!

I haven't seen you in quite a while. Has all been well? It's April second, by the way.

April second?

[That's... a long time. He doesn't like knowing that he's missed so much.]

[But he has an audience. On video, no less. He snaps out of it and puts on a bright smile.]

Ah, of course I am! I've recovered a fine thing from my home world.

[He continues to nuzzle the fabric.]

Well enough, aside from the bit with the plague. And what have you been up to, hmm?

{Mary pretends that she sees no problem and keeps smiling.]

I like the coat! It's different! Too many people are afraid of different, but I like it.

I've been getting back to doing readings. It bothers me that I've lost some of my regulars and I didn't read death in any of their fortunes. It's really unusual.

You didn't have to come back.

[If Break had reappeared right after the plague victims died in droves, the reception would have been entirely different. Alois might have even clung to his leg just so he wouldn't have had to be alone!.]

That coat only makes you look like more of a clown.

Ah, but you didn't have to answer this. If you truly wanted me gone, why should you bother initiating contact? I daresay you missed me.[Probably not true, but the logic is sound enough to be irritating.] Either that or there's something important you need to discuss with me.

[He pauses a moment when Alois calls him a clown. There's only one other person who calls him that, and come to think of it, he hasn't seen her in a while... can chains catch the plague? Is that even possible?]

Have you been speaking to a young lady, by any chance? About your age, black hair, red dress, probably eating the landlady out of house and home...

[There was a certain logic to the man's words. Consequently, Alois decided to reply in the most appropriate and mature manner befitting his station] Don't flatter yourself.

[Okay, maybe not.] There is something.. you eluded to before.

[The young lady in question had mistaken him for someone else in her short stay in Avon. As a result, at least over the devices he'd spent some speaking with her]

What are you going on about now--

You mean that idiot who tried to eat her own device?

[He'll let that slide because he's such a nice guy.]

Hmm? What was it?

[Oh, Alice.]

That's the one, yes. I do hope her intelligence doesn't rub off on you too, charming as it is. Have you seen her lately?
