One of the great unexamined questions in the current political season, to my mind, is the question of who the "real" people are.

Has Katha Polit been kidnapped by the pod people? She's usually so sensible and that whole thing was nothing but blame the victim bullshit and so forth.

Ah, I'm glad you saw that too. It's interesting (albeit frustrating) to see the way that people take sides. Katha may be a feminist, but we can't have the Wrong Sort crashing our parties, old bean.

"Ginmar the Hun" definitely has a nice ring to it!

I don't know if you read it, but I made a comment on one of your entries that was kind of the genesis of this post. Someone had pointed out that the Democratic party goes through this vicious cycle of shutting ordinary folks out of the political process, then wringing their hands over their failure to connect with "real" people. So I commented that this dustup shows pretty clearly that young women aren't "real" enough.
