Exeunt

As often happened, Loira was in the room dusting while Shelley laid about the bed, absently petting Abdiel who as usual purred contentedly at his mistress's ministrations. Loira thought the little redhead was particularly fond of sulking about whatever Lord Ishamael had done or not done depending on her mood. She could never quite figure the matter ( Read more... )

"The usual thing, Loira. Hating the world."

It is surely driving her mad, trapped here, she thinks sadly. No way out, and fending off the... attentions, if that is the word, of a man who can, and has, tortured her on a whim.

It isn't something that goes away.

As soon as the other woman's eyes move away, Shelley makes a silent and desperate break for the nearest door. Screaming is no good, and she doesn't think she could in any case, just get out-

A disdainful sniff from Lanfear as the little girl moved. What a futile gesture. Bands of air seized her lower body with a flick of Lanfear's wrist.

Shelley squeaks in shock as she stops moving abruptly, necklace swinging wildly around her neck.

Only it isn't - he said if she was in danger, and she can't see how it could get much worse. Thinking as hard as she can of the need for help, now, please, she reaches for the stone ter'angreal framed by the rest of the pendant, trying to hide what she is doing from the woman behind her.

Lanfear's eyes catch on the swinging pendant. Why would she be wearing that piece of jewelry and be reaching for it now, unless.... A quick blade of sliced through the chain and the pendant spun across the floor.

A small frown from Lanfear as she glanced at the pendant that lay on the floor.

Shelley hisses slightly as the chain drags hard across her neck before snapping. Mentally she kicks herself, the one time she needed it, and- Oh god. Oh god.

Distracted, the kitten drops from the dresser to pounce on the necklace, happily brushing by the white skirts of the other lady.

As the tiny kitten headed for the amulet, Lanfear's lip curled. If that really was a ter'angreal or something else, that animal might could activate it. A quick gesture with her hand as she wove air.

A screech of pain from the tiny kitten as it flew through the air, smashing against the wall with a sickening crunch. Abdiel's limp body fell to the floor below, his head bent at an unnatural angle. A splash of bright crimson on the wall where he hit.

Slowly, blood began to pool beneath his unmoving body.

Turning, Lanfear grumbled under her breath. What a useless little vermin.

Shelley screams for the first time, reaching out without thought for her pet and struggling in midair before giving up with horrified, aching sob of loss.

"No, no!"

He's a cat, he must be okay, he's a baby but they always land on their feet, he must be okay, oh god, Abdiel, move...

But Abdiel did not move. His chest neither rose nor fell. His tail did not flick back and forth. There was not a sound from the tiny kitten's body. Only the slowly expanding pool of deep red blood.

Lanfear flinched at the high-pitched scream before irritably gagging Shelley with air. What a horrible little girl.

Shelley chokes, struggling uselessly against the invisible bindings. Eyes streaming with hot tears glare hate at the woman.

Lanfear could kill her with a twitch of her finger, but she killed her kitten. How could she even-

Oh, god. Oh, god.

A cold laugh at Shelley's tears and the look of hate. So Ishamael's little paramour had some cuande in that little body of hers.

"Time for us to go."

One more glance to make sure everything was in order, before weaving again. Shelley and Lanfear vanished.
